Go to Credentials Manager in Control Panel and delete "Xbl|DeviceKey" in the Windows Credentials tab.
to reportedly successful results such as here & more recently here as well, this solution could nonetheless be worth trying.

Although I don't yet have an operating system that requires a Microsoft Account just to install and/or run it (And if I have my way, I won't), I've deleted the relevant 'Xbl' files in the Credentials Manager for my PC at least once (Not due to Log-In issues that couldn't be solved with a simple restart, but to troubleshoot issues following a now-resolved issue I & others were encountering with Easy Anti-Cheat) and it's had caused no new problems for myself. That's the most reassurance I can provide you regarding this course of action.
Thank saw this in a vid/ some off steam threads and this actually worked. Wanted to leave this up for anyone else who might be having this issue.

The delete device key is well…the key lol

Thanks for posting

Do you need an Xbox Live account if you just play single-player?

I believe you may need an account to access the game period actually.

Havnt tested it out myself yet though and making an account is free

So why is it sold on Steam if they're just going to make me sign up for and play through another service?

Games are usually sold on Steam with other launchers attached most of the time

Steam is the main store front for a lot of products but that doesn’t mean the publishers don’t have a say on how it’s sold or what’s sold with it etc
