Guide: Custom Edition Maps in MCC
Now that we have custom edition support in MCC (well better support) I felt like I should make a guide to get maps working for those of you who want to play things like hugeass and etc.

1. Grab the following maps from a custom edition install or the custom edition installer
-bitmaps.map
-loc.map
-sounds.map
-ui.map

2. Go to " \Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\halo1\original\build\maps" and back up all your maps

3. Place the 4 custom edition maps in your Halo 1 MCC folder at "\Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\halo1\original\build\maps"

4. Download a Custom Edition Map and rename it to one of the stock maps

5. Replace the stock map in your MCC folder with the custom edition one

6. Launch with No-EAC and play the map you replaced and you are done!

Just put back your backed up maps once you are done to play MM again.

Thats the very one I was thinking of lol
I would try HCEA Refined first, then if it's not stable enough switch over to HCE Refined.
Shouldnt be too bad as long as you backup the OG map files
Sadly the HCEA Refined version crashed the game for me (unpacked the maps folder & paks folders to their proper places in original and prebuild folders, and started with EAC off)
Will probably still try standard CE version, though won't hold my hopes up as the PCGamingWiki also states you need chimera, so I wonder if that functionality will also break without any additional fiddling.

EDIT, nope, standard CE version also crashes.

Guess I'll wait and see what modders come up with, play one of the other Halos in the mean time, still haven't bothered to finish Reach

Yeah refined will not work with this.
A good first step, but I hope the UI/MCC itself is updated to be able to load entirely new map files for Single Player/Multiplayer and not just replacement files; I would love to see some maps by the community officially getting whitelisted/added in matchmaking as well.

This is confirmed that we will be getting the ability to add new maps, so we just need to hope that comes soon.

Kind of strange they don't just allow custom maps folder instead of just replacing existing ones.

Hello! Hey, I'm having issues with running maps

Firefight Airlock and Descent are having issues loading. I did the MEK thing you said in your video and now it just crashes ):

Gluchtropolis only loads regular bloodgulch

Not sure what i'm doing wrong. I'm using the bitmaps, loc and sounds files that come from SPV3 - should I try yours/the original CE files? Or do those maps in particular don't work?

Some maps will just not work if they did any custom DLLs or relied on opensauce. Gluchtropolis only loading bloodgulch is weird though.

It shows a bit on how to load singleplayer maps, what not to do and what maps work right now

I included the ones that load but can't be played, the ones that have some kinks and the ones that directly crash the game

If anyone wants some maps, you can go there and download/install them to play instantly

Got that fixed, the bitmaps, etc files were the ones for SPV3 - after replacing with the regular CE files it worked fine. I've also made a small guide (as mentioned above) with a list of all the maps i've tried so far - including singleplayer

But as you said, maps that don't use the original map editor wont work, most single player firefight maps don't. Tomorrow i'll try experimenting with custom campaigns and progression to see if they work right

might as well just take the maps from the PC retail version in that case, then you'd have the option for anniversary gfx switch if you wanted as well
on the subject of incompatible maps the only lead I have (aside from the ones that require things like opensauce) are maps that replace the default player model with something custom, replacing the player model with a vanilla one seems to work fine though

has anyone else experienced crashes with maps that do this? ambush is a good example of a map that does this and crashes for me

Nah, the only way I'd bother to play with Anniversary gfx on is if someone replaced all Anniversary textures & models with the classic ones so that I could play classic with advanced actually working shaders, bumpmaps and fog and dynamic lights and shadows.
That would actually be kind of interesting to see.
Probably would be a good idea to move this into the Guides section so it doesn't get buried by other forum posts.
