just to talk about the last things you were saying. i mean the point of halo ce is story, is to not know whats going on. The reason people love it is because of the mystery. having those things like why covenant are fighting you ext kinda takes away that. Halo ce is all about the unknown its what every other halo has lacked since then. its why many love it. the flood reveal is fantastic twist. and came at a time where everything wasnt posted online b4 release so it was actually a surprise...
and sorry, no the vehicles in halo ce are amazing wtf? the warthog is the best in the game as it doesnt blow up fast, the scorp tank is totally op. and the physics of the warthog was amazing, and made soo many jump videos back in the day, and doing crazy stunts. halo ce had soo much freedom for tricks, and speed runs ext, no other halo in that regard comes close.
I love games that leave things unexplained and/or leave the information squirrelled away for fans to seek out or for game theorists to, well, theorise over. Five Nights at Freddy's, The Soulsbourne series, Undertale; the list goes on. Instead we have what appears to be a very formal war against, um, a bunch of generic looking aliens with their squealing cowardly slave-children (I mean, they're hilarious, but they don't exactly make me want to take the Covenant too seriously lore-wise). Every other one of the marines seems to know how humanity got into a war with the Covenant, or why Master Chief is so special, but I sure as ♥♥♥♥ don't.
I don't expect or want the game to, say, spell out where the Flood came from, but that's because everyone else was just as surprised to see them show up. And that bit where it's revealed that activating Halo doesn't actually kill the Flood per say, but wipes out EVERYTHING so it has nothing to eat? That was pretty cool, I will give the game that (although that's the Lovecraftian/Horror nerd in me talking).
The warthog is decent but I'm more interested in gameplay than cool stunts. Plus I'll admit I forgot about it because it felt like you were playing Taxi for the NPCs having all the fun instead of a 'real combat vehicle" (and frankly I reasoned there was a chance doing flips might end badly for whoever was hitching a ride). Good for you if you liked doing flips, but I was trying to kill Covenant with it.
The scorp tank pissed me off, sorry. It was a blast until it struggled to shoot around corner, and I had to restart the same part about three/four times because when I manoeuvred to get closer, I'd get a sticky grenade lobbed at me. Oh, and it apparently shares your Shield/HP bar for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason.
That said I do grudgingly respect how the Covenant aren't stupid enough to stand still if you try to run them over. The A.I. in this game uses cover pretty well, it's just a shame that the game just keeps mindlessly throwing more enemies at you.
Yeah, but in CE, you won't know why things are happening while still understanding the story of the game. In halo 4 you will simply be confused and possibly misunderstand something.
One game's book will add to the story and improve it. The other is necessary to avoid any confusion.
The cutscene with the librarian is the only cutscene that does this and it’s just a long drawn out wall of exposition and ends with the anime master chief power-up thing that just made me roll my eyes. It is the best and worst cutscene in the game at the same time.
This. The only explanation you get in Halo 4 are the terminals that you need to hunt down and the definition of an exposition dump in a cutscene. Halo 4 story's presentations suck and that's coming from a guy who enjoyed Halo 4.
It's not like Halo 4 story and writing is unredeemable. I loved the scene with Chief and the scientist being absolutely demolished knowing that Chief is going to blow up years of her sweat and blood put into the composer.
Didn't knew about that, thanks for sharing!
To quote a comment:
"You don't understand Bungie's genius - The Library was meant to be long, to push you to your limits!"
Bungie: "Lol we made this level way too long ahaha"
I will be honest, i always thought they made this a slog to change up the gameplay. 343 was trying to escape while the flood swarmed you. this was you pushing through the swarm.
And then you hear in this, yeah we ran out of time/it didnt work so we walled it all of plunked some elevators in there, ow ♥♥♥♥ i would be bored at this point and we are not even haflway!
Goes to show that the development of CE was anything but smooth xD
half life 2 had some really boring vehicle sections copied from halo which was hot round that time and the most boring sandtraps mission but its still considered a GOAT
Its like bringing your kid to shoot at cans with a old real gun after knowing he has been playing with a watergun in the beach with his sisters
