Halo CE is an example of how NOT to do games
Really, how do people find this fun? You can't outrun anything, even when the AI is screaming at you to hurry. Each level is one small section of map repeated over and over again. And once you hit the Flood? The game REALLY goes downhill fast. Now you enter... HORDE MODE! Ok, I turned that corner and all sorts of mobs suddenly dropped in on me! I try to outrun them but... next corner they catch up and I'm overwhelmed because an entire new squad of mobs hits in front of me! Did. Ok, I hit back at that original group, killed them all, picking up new guns as needed, and finally defeated them. Head to the same corner and... NEW GROUP OF MOBS! Fall back, kill them all, picking up guns. Back to that same corner and... NEW GROUP OF MOBS. Repeat 6-7 times. Ok, now turn the corner. I'm good, Go about 20 seconds to that new area. NEW GROUP OF MOBS! Repeat over and over and over and over...

I really like the story, but please... This game-play is some of the worst I have ever experienced.

I can't comment for the rest of the series but I found the first Halo to be almost completely mind numbingly boring.

And frankly I'm not sure that the whole "well it IS an old game" is really an excuse, as someone who found Half-Life: Source to still hold up fairly well to modern standards of single player FPS'.

I don't doubt that it must have felt incredible back in the day (especially to people who are more interested in playing the Multiplayer, which I guess was more the point), but I just felt so underwhelmed and confused. And it wouldn't have been hard to fix: just make it so all the hallways don't look exactly the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ same, have some clever enemy interactions instead of just 'yet another arena with bad guys", and give me some meaningful bloody dialogue so I know who the hell the Covenant are and why humanity's managed to get themselves in a war with them.

Oh, and the vehicles are total wank too.

just to talk about the last things you were saying. i mean the point of halo ce is story, is to not know whats going on. The reason people love it is because of the mystery. having those things like why covenant are fighting you ext kinda takes away that. Halo ce is all about the unknown its what every other halo has lacked since then. its why many love it. the flood reveal is fantastic twist. and came at a time where everything wasnt posted online b4 release so it was actually a surprise...

and sorry, no the vehicles in halo ce are amazing wtf? the warthog is the best in the game as it doesnt blow up fast, the scorp tank is totally op. and the physics of the warthog was amazing, and made soo many jump videos back in the day, and doing crazy stunts. halo ce had soo much freedom for tricks, and speed runs ext, no other halo in that regard comes close.

Sorry, there's 'mystery' and then there's feeling like I'm the only character in the game who doesn't know what the hell is going.

I love games that leave things unexplained and/or leave the information squirrelled away for fans to seek out or for game theorists to, well, theorise over. Five Nights at Freddy's, The Soulsbourne series, Undertale; the list goes on. Instead we have what appears to be a very formal war against, um, a bunch of generic looking aliens with their squealing cowardly slave-children (I mean, they're hilarious, but they don't exactly make me want to take the Covenant too seriously lore-wise). Every other one of the marines seems to know how humanity got into a war with the Covenant, or why Master Chief is so special, but I sure as ♥♥♥♥ don't.

I don't expect or want the game to, say, spell out where the Flood came from, but that's because everyone else was just as surprised to see them show up. And that bit where it's revealed that activating Halo doesn't actually kill the Flood per say, but wipes out EVERYTHING so it has nothing to eat? That was pretty cool, I will give the game that (although that's the Lovecraftian/Horror nerd in me talking).

and sorry, no the vehicles in halo ce are amazing wtf? the warthog is the best in the game as it doesnt blow up fast, the scorp tank is totally op. and the physics of the warthog was amazing, and made soo many jump videos back in the day, and doing crazy stunts. halo ce had soo much freedom for tricks, and speed runs ext, no other halo in that regard comes close.
The warthog is decent but I'm more interested in gameplay than cool stunts. Plus I'll admit I forgot about it because it felt like you were playing Taxi for the NPCs having all the fun instead of a 'real combat vehicle" (and frankly I reasoned there was a chance doing flips might end badly for whoever was hitching a ride). Good for you if you liked doing flips, but I was trying to kill Covenant with it.

The scorp tank pissed me off, sorry. It was a blast until it struggled to shoot around corner, and I had to restart the same part about three/four times because when I manoeuvred to get closer, I'd get a sticky grenade lobbed at me. Oh, and it apparently shares your Shield/HP bar for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason.

That said I do grudgingly respect how the Covenant aren't stupid enough to stand still if you try to run them over. The A.I. in this game uses cover pretty well, it's just a shame that the game just keeps mindlessly throwing more enemies at you.

Ironically, the exact thing that people complain about H4 requiring to fully understand is something that it has in common with HCE: It requires ancillary material, "Halo: The Fall of Reach", to understand, and was released for the purpose of introducing the world of Halo and it's primary conflicts.

Yeah, but in CE, you won't know why things are happening while still understanding the story of the game. In halo 4 you will simply be confused and possibly misunderstand something.

One game's book will add to the story and improve it. The other is necessary to avoid any confusion.

Hardly. There's nothing about the didact that is necessary to the story that isn't passably explained in game.
The cutscene with the librarian is the only cutscene that does this and it’s just a long drawn out wall of exposition and ends with the anime master chief power-up thing that just made me roll my eyes. It is the best and worst cutscene in the game at the same time.

This. The only explanation you get in Halo 4 are the terminals that you need to hunt down and the definition of an exposition dump in a cutscene. Halo 4 story's presentations suck and that's coming from a guy who enjoyed Halo 4.

It's not like Halo 4 story and writing is unredeemable. I loved the scene with Chief and the scientist being absolutely demolished knowing that Chief is going to blow up years of her sweat and blood put into the composer.

Oh yeah that’s my favorite mission by far. No Promethians and I know exactly what I’m doing the whole time with cortana’s rampancy becoming more and more of an issue. Just wish it was set up better.

The Library was never ment to be the way it turned out. It was supossed to be you going up a Spiral towards the index and fight the flood along the way. but due to issues they had to haphazardly walls parts of and turn it into the slog it came to be. The devs in this video even comment the level is to long. Just one of the cuts/changes they had to do to get the game finisched.

Didn't knew about that, thanks for sharing!

"You don't understand Bungie's genius - The Library was meant to be long, to push you to your limits!"
Bungie: "Lol we made this level way too long ahaha"

The reason for not porting chief to the index, Safety feature in case of a compromise of the teleportation grid by the flood. no acces to vital points.
Wow. That's gotta be pretty embarrassing for all the people here defending its "masterful design".

So you want another Call of Duty with Halo theme like in Halo 4.

I will be honest, i always thought they made this a slog to change up the gameplay. 343 was trying to escape while the flood swarmed you. this was you pushing through the swarm.

And then you hear in this, yeah we ran out of time/it didnt work so we walled it all of plunked some elevators in there, ow ♥♥♥♥ i would be bored at this point and we are not even haflway!

Goes to show that the development of CE was anything but smooth xD

i means its not the first game to have a few boring levels and still getting critically acclaimed

half life 2 had some really boring vehicle sections copied from halo which was hot round that time and the most boring sandtraps mission but its still considered a GOAT

The worst you have ever seen.... compared to what? The game came out in 2001, and it was THE game that made FPS accessible to consoles. It was the first game to introduce really good AI, and it revolutionized the FPS genre across many platforms. So are you comparing it to new games? Because if so, drop it. It's idiotic. By the way, it's among the best games of all time, objectively.

What I can tell is that you ran into a section where enemies spawn infinitely until you progress further into the mission. But you weren't smart enough to figure it out, so you kept running back and hitting the spawn trigger. It's not really the game's fault at that point. From what I can tell also is that you were playing through The Library, and it was too hard for you, and you kept running, again, into infinite spawns. Did it not occur to you that you should just progress through the mission and not go back? It's not like the game was made in an era of more dynamic missions like you see today. This is 2001 we're talking about.

And you can't outrun anything? The game isn't a horror-survival game where you prioritize running instead of fighting. This is the exact opposite. You're not supposed to run from enemies, you're supposed to fight them, then progress. That was intentional, hence the reason why Bungie devs made Chief somewhat slow compared to Elites and Flood. It is also intentional as The Covenant is far more advanced than the UNSC lore-wise.

You should change your title to "Pacer Dawn is an example of how NOT to play Halo CE".
ok fanboy, look at your pfp. This game is legit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ compared to modern shooters.

No ♥♥♥♥,a 20 year old game is bad compared to apex legends
Yu Ryujin 4/jan./2021 às 4:36
I love when fortnite/CoD/OW/Apex/DOta2 players cries about "old" shooters being awful and "old", because "old" is always bad for them.

Its like bringing your kid to shoot at cans with a old real gun after knowing he has been playing with a watergun in the beach with his sisters
