Why there isn't split-screen on PC?
Most gaming PCs are waaaaay faster than an Xbox One S/X and it's a constantly evolving platform. As a developer, you wouldn't really have to optimize this feature at all, just make it available for us who want to play with our friends locally.

Almost bought this, but glad I checked the forums first.

Halo has always been a staple splitscreen same sofa experience. Both slayer and co-op. Without it, the franchise would never have gone anywhere. And from what I'm reading, none of this is in the game, even online co-op has serious issues. This is... not Halo. This is something else, and I'll have to leave it at the virtual shelf.

Now, I absolutely don't want to badmouth 343 for their efforts, but ever since Bungie moved on from Halo, the series has been sadly going downhill, game after the next. It's a shame, really.

We are talking about games that ran on 20 to 15 year old hardware here. They'd run perfectly fine with software emulation on any entry level gaming PC today, with double or quadruple the original resolution - the reason splitscreen is not featured is development priorities, and unfortunately 343's aren't in line with my expectations or the series' legacy.

Very simple answer. They didnt bother making it or porting it to the PC. Why? because obviously on PC most people dont care and play MP instead.
Back then on consoles people did play it though.

That's one of the reasons why splitscreen was such a huge thing.
You don't need to rely on awful internet connections to play with friends.
Yeah, well, doing a get-together with my Canadian friend isn't exactly easy to set up. It would be much better if they could just fix their damn matchmaking connections.
And give the country actual good internet connections, costing millions upon millions of dollars and defying the scummy bullcrap that ISPs typically do like data caps and throttling?

Wouldn't that be nice.

Which wouldn't be much of a factor because WE ALREADY HAVE THAT IN VERSUS MODE. And far less people even attempt to play coop campaign, it wouldn't be that much of an issue to just give dedicated server support to it.

I wish I didn't make the same mistake you avoided.
I bought this expecting splitscreen, as you said, splitscreen is a staple feature of Halo.
Guess I should've expected a hell of a lot less because again, as you said, Halo as a series has been getting worse and worse with every release, ever since 343 took over.

This is so freaking frustrating, man. All I wanted was the old Halo back. :(

This is really really frustrating. I want to play splitscreen FPSs with my kids but game devs just don't provide any options. I would 100% buy if this had split screen.

And no, nucleus coop isn't the same. It's fiddly and it requires a lot more resources since you're running the same game several times at once. I'm glad it exists because PC game devs aren't providing this option to their audience, but the devs need to step up.

I couldn't agree more!!

Since you're looking for splitscreen FPSs, here's what I can find:

Hypercharge Unboxed

Murder Miners

Blood: Fresh Supply

Doom 1 & 2

There's a lot more other splitscreen games on PC too.

Portal isn't an FPS. It's just first person.

Given that you "shoot" portals to solve problems, it really is.

You're a big fan of shifting definitions to fit your preferred version of reality, aren't you?

It's called a Portal Gun and you put portals on the wall by shooting them. Just because you don't shoot people doesn't mean you're not shooting.

This is the same guy who tortured the definition of "computer" (when he meant "PC") for the sake of screaming "I'm right!!!"

...you can try to make him see his own logical inconsistencies, but I just don't think it will work out.

No, Portal is literally just a first person puzzle game.
