I honestly didn't like either of them. For Halo 4 to make any sense it requires that the player find all the terminals. That's how poorly the game explains everything.
And the whole Chief and Cortana dynamic.. while deep... just felt so un-Halo.
It truly felt like a story that was complete fan fiction. Didn't have any of the feels of the original game. Cortana even repeats "don't make a girl a promise if you can't keep it" literally as fan service it was so out of place and cringe worthy since it was clearly just lazy writing.
In my mind, all the others spartans are DEAD. All the forerunners are GONE. The forerunners are just an old mysterious species with technology we cannot even conceive. They are gone and the absolute best we can learn about them are the terminals in Halo 3.
When you start to explain too much, revive dead caracters... that is when it is time to stop.
I mean I was more than happy knowing nothing of the dead alien species in the movie Alien, but they went ahead and gave a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ explanation in Prometheus, and ruin that movie for me.
I think it's the same about the forerunners.
It's also particulary upsetting seing that the weapons of the forerunners are just the same as human weapons but they fire orange bullets... At least there was inventiveness in the design of the covenants weapons.
I understand they wanted to propose something new in the story, but for me that was an absolute fail. I would have loved a simple story like "a brute coalition was formed after the war to wage war on humans because they ruined the Great Journey. And the Elites are going to help humanity"
Ok maybe it's too simple and uninventive, but I think it would have made better games. You can even add the idea of Cortana dying into it (since it was the only good idea in Halo 4)
That's my whole thing. I completely hate the promethean enemy type. 343 had a real chance to do something unqiue but it ended up just feeling like a robotic copy of the covenant that are nowhere near as fun to fight as the covenant... making the promethean enemies a totally pointless fail.
Atleast the Flood was unique as a contrast to the covenant and the strategy to fight them was totally different. Prometheans had a replacement for the grunt, a replacement for the flying bug enemy, a replacement elites/brutes and a replacement for the hunters. It was just incredibly lazy.
And yes, I agree with everythign you're talking about regarding the forerunners. I can't claim to know what direction they should've taken with halo 4... which enemies they should've had us fighting as I'm not well versed enough in the lore to make that suggestion.. but something tells me they could've done better.
Have you read the books? Does the story of master chief continue in the books as well? or do the books just follow 343's timeline.
Do any big Halo fans know the best direction Halo 4 should've went in?
I should clarify. I tolerate Halo 4 as opposed to accept it outright.
