Infinitely Spawning Enemies?
I recently finished Halo CE on Legendary and began a run on Halo 2 just the same. At certain portions of Halo CE I noted that if I did not push forward enemies would continually spawn, this was most prevalent in some Flood levels as well as parts on the Covenant ship when you need to steal a Banshee, I would kill some enemies to allow me to focus on others only for those same enemies to respawn and attack me.

Currently in Halo 2, I'm in quite a tight spot where there are several Jackal Snipers in the area, and I need to kill them all to even have a chance to move up. The issue however is, they keep ♥♥♥♥ing spawning new ones. I've depleted 2 beam rifles and a sniper rifle laying out in excess of 15 Jackals without being able to move forward an inch. This is rather annoying.

I understand Legendary is meant to be hard, but infinitely spawning enemies is not "hard" its asinine. I could give it a pass when it came to the Flood, because that is kind of their thing and most need to get in close, but when its enemies that can and will 1 tap you at 400 yards, thats just ♥♥♥♥ed up. I've even gotten so close that I can see them just appear out of no where at the bottom of the stairs they sprint up. If I push to their platform, they just spawn somewhere else in the giant circular ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this part of the map is.

I got past after about 20 tries or so. Sure seemed like infinite spawning though since they do just appear out of nowhere.

They do respawn infinitely, lol. Every time I replay halo 2 this question just keep popping up. Here's for you.

P.S. Certain parts, like the Metropolis, basically you need to kill certain threats ~> move up ~> kill them again ~> move up to the next checkpoint so they will stop respawning. Yes, H2 on Legendary is like that.

I don’t understand this bullet sponge meme some people accuse ce of.

Are there people who only use the ar for every single encounter on legendary no matter what, completely ignorant of the basic mechanics of the game.

Yeap, CE is basically an arcade game in the form of an FPS. Those who try to force a Counter-Strike mindset in this just won't get anywhere, it's not a run and gun.

Real, old casual players would learn how the plasma guns fare much better against shield, esp jackal's. Hard mode, gotta use cover. Legendary, it's cover + grenades + getting the right stuff, melee the hunters even (in H2 we get a new factor, ammo preserve).

New players these days just wanna hop in and get some legendary achievements I guess.

All the while Johnson wont shut up about getting on his gun which makes me an even easier target.
That is not Johnson... That is Gunnery Sergeant Stacker. Sergeant Johnson is the dark-skinned alien pwner with a killer moustache. Nobody, short of Chief, is tougher than that man.

Also, I highly doubt him stopping and offering a ride is drawing much attention. Him driving around aimlessly makes him a target in fact, and keeps fire off you. It's best to avoid him until the jack♥♥♥♥♥ are thinned out. The others can easily be taken out by the gauss, if you put him on it.

If you are having trouble finding them, try to pinpoint where they station themselves. If you can't find spawn points, this is just as good. Also keep as many marines as you can and give them beam rifles to help combat them.

I really didn't want to know this... just finished CE and I absolutely hated the endless bullet sponge hordes. It got to a point were I started just running past everything, specially in those last levels that are so freaking long and repetitive. No fun at all; just an unnecessarily long chore. Story is worth it though...

I started playing H2 and so far I thought it was much better in this regard. Better gunplay, a reasonable enemy count. But I guess this is the beginning.

I seriously don't remember these games being like this?

Yeah, I probably don't know the game mechanics at all. I was never a Halo person, since I was never an Xbox person in my console days. I did play CE once more than a decade ago and Halo 2 a bit.

I just want to play through them, enjoy some good gunplay and of course, the story. I don't hate the game, I think its really good for its age. It's just that its mechanics are unknown to me.

I'm more used to shooters like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, the early Medal of Honor and Time Splitters.

Sounded like Johnson, he was also a dark skinned gentleman but then again I didn't have time to see his face. It was also more that after like 20 times hearing the same line it gets annoying, wasn't about drawing attention. It also wasn't an issue of finding their position either, it was that they kept spawning back. Would be on the approach after killing the first 2-10 that spawn and they'd suddenly spawn right behind me where I just was on the ridge and shoot me in the back of the head.

In the end what I did was gambled with the Gauss-Hog, I either die, or blow everything to hell. Eventually it worked.

This sounds like a really awful bug...

I know Halo CE much better than I know Halo 2, and as far as CE goes, the enemies are never actually infinitely spawning with the sentinels and flood during the maw engine destroying sequence.

Okay... disregard my previous comment. I watched a very long video on Halo the other day after posting here and reading some of the responses. Learned a lot about its history, features and gameplay mechanics. I have a new respect for this title now. My problem is that I never expect a 20 year old game to have a complex gameplay.

I might replay this now that I actually know how it works.

I think there's only 2 infinite spawners in CE, the pool of carrier forms on Keyes and the final fight (and even then because I didn't try to see if the final battle can be attritioned out)

For Halo 2 I haven't seen any "infinite" spawns except on Metropolis... where everything except the tunnel infinite spawns. (and the banshees can eat 4 scorpion blasts and still fly)

As it turns out a lot of older games have a lot more complexity than what we have now
This is ironic for them to say. Games used to be more difficult, more story-driven, more complex etc. Now most feel like carbon copies of each other. With pay-to-win taking over many games, actual skill is being slowly driven out of gaming.

Well, back in the days you're either an adult and/or with a stable job to purchase a SNES. College kids worked extra hours for a console so... we kinda treasure the games better, at least spend a lot more time on each title.

Nowadays, hmm... it's a different story.
