Dwarf Fortress

Can I use doors for multiple rooms
Using diagonals I can easily use a door for 2 rooms, and 3 on a corner. Does this work? Do you do it?

A normal doorway only has the door itself as the bottleneck, both sides have 3 tiles that can access the door.

Corner doorways only have 1 tile for each room, meaning that 3 consecutive tiles have no alternatives.
As long as only one dwarf at a time goes through these tiles it's fine but once a second one tries as well you'll see dwarves crawling on the ground because of a lack of alternate paths.
Yeah, I was only going to do this on bedrooms

Why though? You have a shortage of doors for some reason?

It will reduce the value of your rooms. If 3 rooms share that door the door is only worth 1/3 of its value to each room. Its not a major thing, but it is something to consider.

I very commonly do this for bedrooms in older versions of DF. Some players consider it unaesthetic, or else less dorfy than doing it the harder way, but those are the only downsides. Room value can be easily swamped by other furnishings and engraving.

Make more. Problem solved. Doesn't really matter what they are made of until you get a consistent supply of valuable building materials.
