Unowned worn clothes lying around everywhere
I need some help with this:
Having to sort out worn clothing was always something I found quite annoying, but I remember that there were ways to deal with it, that did not include scrolling for hours through the stockpile menu to set all worn clothes to be dumped.
Now I am back, playing the first fort after a few years and cannot seem to find the solution for this.
I know and use DFHack and the "cleanowned scattered x" command already helps a bit, but most of the stuff that is just lying around everywhere in my fort is not owned anymore, thus not affected by that command it seems.
I would have thought that, as soon as its not owned anymore, any item would get hauled into a storage again...but my Dwarfs seem to just ignore all those clothing items lying around. I only see them very rarely in the storage somewhere and the messy look of my fort is really bothering me...even more since the king moved in :D

So...what am I missing here? There has to be a way that does not hurt my scrolling finger that much....

It depends on how worn they are, if not much then they go to the clothing stockpiles like any other clothes, if very worn they go to a refuse stockpile instead.

If dwarves don't haul them to stockpiles and they are not owned, it probably means that your dwarves are too busy to do everything.
Either increase the population or decrease the amount of things you are asking them to do.

Its mostly items that are just slightly worn "x" and I wish that there would be a way to make them wear them until "X".
So it is as I remember, they should haul them to the cloth stockpile.
I have a lot of workforce, or so I thought at least...and they are hauling gems and ores from the deepest depths to the stockpiles, but not the slightly worn socks that are lying just 5m away....

You could give them closer stockpiles for the heavy (or numerous) stuff and transfer it to your real stockpiles with minecarts.
It takes a bit of digging and engineering to get it done but it saves a lot of work force.

Alternatively, give the ores and stone stockpiles some wheelbarrows, it usually limits how many dwarves do the hauling for that stockpile and they can bring back several items at once.

I already use wheelbarrows for all my stockpiles that are for ores or stones..mostly 2-4, depending on the size.
Thanks for all the advice!
I guess I will just stop digging for a moment (so the new kings guard will have to wait for the adamantine armor set...*sigh*) to see if really no one is hauling that stuff, even when there is not much to do. Also I will keep looking for a command in DFHack or a mod that will let me mark "x" clothes that are unowned for dumping as well, that would solve all my pain ^^

There is something slightly similar, you can easily mark worn/damaged items for trading through dfhack's menu, bringing stuff to the depot has a higher priority too.

I had the plan to use a recycling mod and then recycle all the dumped stuff, but that command for trading would do the trick as well. The other downside would be that I can only use it once a year though, but its still better than the endless scrolling and clicking I do now!

Do you only have dwarves nearby?
I usually try to get humans and/or elves as well (or modded races when playing with mods) as neutrals or allies so I get more caravans throughout the year.

Yeah, for my first game after a while I chose a site that is a bit remote, so only one caravan per year.

They need rooms with cabinets most time they try to store the stuff inside now you forbid everything inside for a few ingame days to remove ownership then you can bulk dump whats inside as they never wear that stuff again.. make sure the cabinet itself is not forbidden.

Cabinets are for owned clothing, OP specifically spoke about "unowned" which will never be stored in cabinets.

I couldn't care less what the Dwarfs do in their rooms and what is lying around there, this issue is specifically about un-owned things lying around in the fort.

I really did not think that I have not enough workforce, as everything I ordered to be build got built quickly and gems and ore was always hauled in time, but after getting 50 more dwarfs, cleaning up some work orders and stopping the adamantine mining (including glassing whole areas to see below), clothes are now getting hauled again.

Thanks for the advice, the solution was simpler than I thought it could be :D

Personally, If I saw a mouldy pair of underpants laying on the floor I wouldn't pick them up either, especially if they weren't in my room.

Makes sense, but we have a proper shiny Mountainhome now and the King demands the place to be clean, so no filthy underwear is covering any of the fine engravings anymore.

Even if the local council gave me instructions to "haul" them, Id just pretend I didn't see them. The council can do one. I'm not picking up someone else's pants and socks.
