I found it odd that it was mentioned in the newsletter on Steam but I find no details anywhere else, including the old Bay12 forums.

Several years ago he mentioned moving to Canada for political reasons, so maybe it's that. I hope he takes Zach with him, wherever he's going.

I was kind of hoping that wasn't where this was headed. But something told me it was. I thought maybe he just found marital bliss or something.

I haven't played in years, He got his last few bucks from me out of loyalty to the general DF community before he betrayed the Constitution I guess.

It could be a variety of countries depending on the reason.
For example, we know that this steam version was initially started off the back of him needing medical funds so he could be moving to a place with leading specialists for whatever ails him.


Out of curiosity, what does "betrayed the Constitution" means?
I suppose it's an american thing but I'm pretty sure I never encountered it before.
I sure hope it's not something like "this person is moving to a different country therefore he/she is a traitor to the country".

Sometimes I visit the steam discussions to see what the state of the steam users of game might be. If this thread is a microcosm of the health of the community, I am mildly alarmed. Then again, most of you are probably just joking around, but either way speculation about a developer's personal motivations and gossip flowing from such is not a particularly interesting, productive or even polite topic.

Nah, dont get ahead of yourself. Most of the threads in this Steam forum or on Bay12 are pretty fine. There are always weird dudes and people who did not have any social skills at all, but its not like this thread represents the majority of normal threads or anything.

I am surprised that nobody closed this thread yet.

Everyone said that nonsense a few years ago. Noone actually went anywhere though. Plus even if you try Canada isn't going to let you in. it's incredibly difficult to move to Canada.

Well I did say mildly and also that I'm assuming most people are joking. However, I think there are some that might be genuinely unhinged, but that's the normal state of the 'net after all ;)

It does concern me that gossip about the personal lives of strangers has somehow become elevated to a topic of AMAZING INCREDIBLE VITAL CLICK-BAIT LEVEL interest, but there's nothing that will ever change humanity's love of gossip. It's not like I'm sitting in some ivory gossip-immune tower either, it's just that if zero people call out that we're engaging in gossipy behavior, then there's literally zero check on our worst impulses. Humanity is a team effort after all, despite what any who worship at the altar of ego would have you believe.
