An add showing very little gameplay doesn't say much about how the game will be either but we can always hope it will be at least decent.
I love the game, but it's likely I love it for reasons that some players hate it...
Mechanically speaking, the game is barely functional and so very limited in what it can actually "do" that I am sure it is surprised, itself, that it can run and produce gameplay.
But, in terms of constructing a setting and giving the player a carefully crafted gameplay "experience," it's top-notch.
It's really a sort of old-school style "adventure" game with quite a bit of walk-simulator thrown in, but then with a huge seamless world and an RTS combat experience... The thing oozes "style" all over the place. That little unidentified puddle of stuff that you found next to your computer case? Yup, that was Kenshi.
There is no other game that I know of that gives the player those mechanics and expressed in gameplay so very well. That's despite the fact that the game is a hodgepodge of open-source engines and absolutely does not do many of the things some gamers might think it does. :)
If anyone knows of a party-based RPG with RTS mechanics in a completely seamless world (No instancing or combat-space transitions)... I'd love to have some links for it.
Oh - And the music is PERFECT for it. It's outstanding.

Take a look a the game: Songs of Syx I haven't played it yet, but it is worth a store page visit.
I have played Kenshi, but not since they opened up the areas after the fishing village. That game brings me back to the YT video story of the lone ninja with his bonedog. I had fond memories.
I like Ambiquous-Amphibians Yout-Tube videos of the Tor-Solo and Torso-Squad. Sick, but cool...
That's not to say it couldn't be an amazing game, just that you are comparing apples to oranges here.
Yup, already have it and it's great! :)
But, it's a fantasy city-builder/conquest'ish mashup sort of game. It does have some instanced combat bits, as well, for overland battles. (Haven't played the last combat patch.)
One of the funniest short series for Kenshi sort of "machinima" is done by "Koifish" on youtube, IMO. Great production value, tones of memes, great "energy" there. Just a few shorts, though, but worth it. :)
The number of movei-IP PC games that have turned out well is... smol. But, that list does include a few from the LotR IP, so there "could be" hope. If it's not done by a known dev/publisher that has a good reputation, I wouldn't even bother glancing at it.
Looking at Songs of Syx now and downloading the demo. I kinds of wish that Dwarf Fortress might have had graphics like this one. They're not state of the art, but they display better and animate better if you know what I'm thinking...
Well, DF on Steam is just a baby right now. Now that we also have DFHack on steam too and another person to fix bugs... Modders will be throwing so many graphic packs at you in no time
I will be visiting the game again and look those up, something tells me that I have already seen them, since I was way more active on YT back then. Not so much anymore.
Be sure to check out Torso-man and torso-squad.
It's excellent work. The load the game can take in terms of functions and population is pretty darn neato... The scope is pretty astounding, too, considering it's a full city/survival/builder/conflict/management.. e'rrything game with world conquest and diplomacy, too. It's not quite DF in scale in that regard, but it's reaching for that kind of scale and doing well so far.
Battle Brothers? :) (Haven't played it yet, but seen a bit of play. Looks brutal.)
