I have a caged troll… only option is kill it?

you can't tame trolls. I think if you put them on a chain, they will fight enemies, but if a dwarf sees them the dwarf is scared. And if the troll gets free it will attack the dwarves. I haven't tried it, my military practices fighting on them.

create a fighting pit below your glass floor tavern. now your dorfs can drink and watch trolls fight goblins you captured.

nope, they won't be scared of a troll. As well as cave giants, because trolls aren't necessarily hostile (if they weren't a part of a goblin army; then they will be hostile, check their status in "creatures" page). Even military dwarves ignore them.
However some diplomats and merchants would attack the chained up troll.

So... you can try set him on a leash near the trade depot in order to spook the merchants and make them dropping their goods. I wouldn't recommend you doing that, but it's your game.

I have chained the troll for militar training but i have changed my mind and created a chain at the enter of my fortess, but don’t have the option to chain the troll.
