Dwarf Fortress

Fire Enemies Lag
My current fortress, I keep having enemies that launch fire out all over. This causes my game to get so laggy that I can't open a menu, move dwarves, etc. I've read online that its being caused by endless loops of dwarves trying to path, but unable to find a path through the fire...

But what do I do? I've tried leaving the game on and coming back later and its still just stuck at that spot. My only option is to exit, and lose unsaved progress.

Unfortunately at my current fortress, these enemies are happening at least once a year.

And I'm on a high end PC, its not my PC. I've tried using ascii graphics but it still happens.

But yes, fires kill your framerate pretty badly, heat is one aspect but there is also smoke.
DFHack has a command to put out fires, as well as one to clear smoke (you can also exterminate those enemies through commands):

Interesting, I may have to go the DFHack route then, thanks. And these are usually in the caverns but sometimes on the surface. The most recent one was on the surface.

Only one of them I managed to defeat, since I got to it before the lag got too bad. Then about 10 minutes of lag battle it was dead.

Its too bad though. They would be glorious battles, with many dwarves earning their way into the Tombs of Heroes.
