shell/bone armor
you can do shell gauntlets, helm, leggins, bone greaves, but no boots or chestpiece? Why no chestpiece specifically? I'd reckon it's easier than crafting leggins..

That kinda shocks me. People make bone and shell armor? Feels useless, but there is no reason for it not to work

It's a weird thing indeed (the lack of chestpiece and boots I mean), but since shell armour is so bad that basic weapons and unarmed hits both go through it like it doesn't exist, it is probably at best a low priority thing to add the rest (it has been like this for years already after all and it is incredibly easy to add the two missing pieces).
I was pretty sure they used to count as leather clothing, which was neat, since there's no leather gauntlets so you could only make a full set of proper leather armor mix-and-matching with bone.
But that doesn't work anymore.

the lack of a shaped breastplate is covered by the fact leather armor is also a shaped piece, so there already is a similar option. development wise not many people keep their military equipped with animal materials for long, so thats probably why bone breastplates were something people modded into the game by adding [BONE] to the material tags. pretty sure you could find a mod for it in the workshop these days.

shell and bone armor is okay against animals and small groups of goblins, as long as you only use masterworks. the deflect chance goes way up then and animal natural weapons/low quality copper weapons struggle to damage through them with first strikes. they have rather low durability though, so bone/shell armor that takes several hits should be discarded and replaced after battles.

thanks for all the answers yeah I just wanted to dress in shell before having metal, I thought it was better than leather, also because there's a lot of shells around
