Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

Strange mood.
I recently got a possession strange mood on a child that then claimed a craftdwarfs shop. They wanted rock, wood, bone, rough gems, cloth, more bone, and cut gems. For some reason they aren't taking any cloth even though i think i have all three types. Wool, silk, and plant fiber.

DFHack has a tool (showmood) that will tell you exactly what the dwarf is looking for.

They take things in the specific order they want them in.
Have a look at what they already got to the workshop and the order they are telling you about the items (as well as the length since 2 of the same item would last twice as long) to see what could be the issue.

Alternatively, DFHack has the "showmood" command that will show you the details (order and amount of everything requested).
They have everything before cloth. I don't know what i am missing, unless they want to use adamantine cloth. How do i use DFHack?

You install it with that, if you opted into the beta for the game, there is a corresponding beta for dfhack.
If the versions match, just launching the game will launch it as well, there will be a DFHack button in the top left.

While in your save, click on that then open "gui/launcher" (Ctrl+Shift+D does it as well).
In that window, type showmood and press enter to run the command, it will show you the result in the "output" tab.

EDIT: I just noticed that you don't own the game on steam, so you will probably need to install dfhack manually:

So the steam version of DFHack won't work if i am playing DF through steam family library?

Most likely they want bone. The bones you think you have may not be suitable.

Butcher an animal and see if the dwarf grabs the bones.

If the first thing the kid claimed was indeed rock and picked up all the other stuff you listed according to the order the kid specified in the workshop, then check your cloth stockpile and make sure they're not forbidden and that they're not partially used as bandages (though without DFhack, percentages are not shown for partially used items). If you've got some spare thread, try making new cloth of each kind and see if the kid will pick them up.

The cloth is probably stored in your hospital, you could try disabling the chest in there free up the cloth and rebuild the chest.

I try to seperate my cloth types in different stockpiles. I made the observation way to often, that they can't access every cloth, if they are all in one stockpile. It's a weird bug
Cloth is frequently ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because of hospitals. I tried unbuilding my hospital chest(s) during cloth-related strange moods and that's fixed some weird issues before.

Not sure, could be worth trying.
I didn't know if you were playing through family sharing, the free version from the dev's site or on itch (since they sell it over there as well).
I have installed DFhack and found that it is silk cloth that my dwarf was missing and that

was right. I deconstructed my hospital chest with a few pieces of silk cloth in it and the dwarf started working normally again. I have no idea why they wouldn't get the plenty of silk cloth in the stockpile though. Must be a bug.
Yep. There's a couple bugs related to that - another really funny one is where the offending dwarf will still take cloth, but never consider that they might have enough cloth already, and so just continue to demand more and more and more cloth until their workstation is full of hundreds and you finally unmake the chest in exasperation trying to scrape together a few more bolts so the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ won't go mad and poof they're immediately satisfied.
And you have a worthless boot with 140 cloth images sewn in and the world's longest description.
Very helpful.

When I say don't put chests in hospitals, it's because of bugs like these...
