Adventure Mode Races Removed?
I came back to DF recently once "chosen" was added to Adventure Mode, but found almost every previous race that you could play was no longer accessible. Is this intended?

you might have a world thats pretty much in the late age so most of the smaller races died out

The races you can play in adventure mode are random and very dependent on the world you are playing in.
Did you mean using the same world?

I generated a new world. The list used to be massive, but suddenly it's limited to less than 10 races if I crank all my settings to High, though usually only 1-3

The current default history length is just about 100 years. You might want to experiment with increasing that to 200, 500, 1000 and see if anything changes.
In chosen mode only a few races are available in the current version, you can play the others when you play the other categories.

i think this has to do with the requirements for chosen mode.

so its more restricted because it involves certain deities and other entities to exist for a civ/race, perhaps? maybe im just idly speculating but based on one of their recent posts this kind of seemed like what it was.

so you can play as many races in adventure mode easily but only certain races will actually have enough pre-reqs to go 'chosen', at least for now, unless your world has particularly advanced generation in which case youll see more options.

i dont feel like making a new world and testing this out yet, but i think if i did i'd have more races to choose from than default settings because of my honed advanced world generation settings

I think this is the actual answer. I feel the initial confusion came from a difficulty option named 'god-like', 'demigod' or something similar in previous versions, where all it did was give you a lot of points to spend in character creation. The new version's 'chosen' is a completely separate sub-mode of play within adventure mode.

Alright, I did some testing, and this is not entirely true. Chosen allows for all races it seems, as I made a world and tried all the options. Instead, it appeared to be tied to the world-gen's age and civ. It's still not as many as it used to be, but its a lot more than what I've been dealing with, so thank you.

Any race can go extinct. If a particular race you want to play isn't available, I suggest you recreate the world. Some races are more resistant to extinction and thus appear more often than others after world gen.

I've had worlds without dwarves, humans, elves, goblins, etc.

"the chosen" has special requirements like organized religion leaders and temples, so dwarves, elves, humans and goblins as well as the animal races that integrate themselves into one of the previous 4 races towns can be chosen if the world is old enough that all civs have started having the conditions met, but the rest are removed from the list. but besides that the chosen has turned into a sudo tutorial mode with your diety holding your hand with some quests now that points are linked to difficulty and not your backround, and hero peasent roles still allow all races.

How do you go up to 500-1000yrs of history?
