Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

Horizontal/Vertical keyboard scroll tiles
This was changed from 1 to 10 over night which had me perplexed. I know it's related to the recent update. Didn't know they would actually change the default lol.

Set it back to 1, if you like me, were trying to designate some mining using the arrow-keys.

By this point, messing with the defaults of one arrow key-press equals one move; shift+arrow key equals +10, is just what? Lol.

This very keyboard centric game, once upon a time, need some of the quality of life of the keyboard back. The mouse is great, but for some stuff, like mining designations, especially when recording a designation macro, the keyboard is superior.

Also, please allow me to hit enter as OK for simple pop-ups in fortress mode :D:

Edit: To fix, scroll down to the bottom of Game in options.

Edit2: Come to think of it, this might have been the default for the steam release? Don't remember if I had it changed back to classic mode prior, and the update simply reset it.

" Edit: So long story short, for clarity, I reverted it back to 1 for H/V scroll, 10 for fast; and reversed the keybindings so that WASD is fast scroll and Shift+WASD is slow scroll of the game world itself, at 1 granular tile. This way I can still use the arrow keys to designate mining, building at 1 tile standard +10 shift, in v51.11 as per classic rules. "

It always moved the view by 10, even before the steam release.
It was even a pain to make it center on a specific tile for the shortcut because of it (less of an issue since the steam release since we could also move it smoothly with the mouse and less emphasis on the keyboard cursor).

Not sure if you mean the keyboard cursor, but WASD was always scrolling 10 tiles by default.

I mean that the cursor started at the center of the view, so that center being on a specific tile (the center of the staircase for me usually) made things much easier when doing digging designations on a new level.
Replaying recordings were a lot more reliable that way and the quickfort stuff I made were specifically tailored to use multiples of 10 in directions from the center of the staircase.
It's all old stuff from before the steam version though.

I was speaking of the designation box, when you mine using the yellow designation box, but I now realize this also affects the scroll view lol.

So this is a bit weird, how the designation tool, is linked to the scroll of the game itself. Is this an oversight? You used to be able to designate one tile at a time for mining using the arrow-keys, hit right click then move the game world as standard using WASD.

Mining designation box moved 1 tile, +10 with shift+arrowkey. Game moved a set amount, yes, using arrow keys in classic, WASD in the steam release.

So now, using my preferred method for mining designations, I have to have a one tile scroll of the game world? Or constantly use shift+WASD? No, after writing this, I reversed the keybinding for wasd shift+WASD.

The added granularity is nice I suppose hah.

Edit: So long story short, for clarity, I reverted it back to 1 for H/V scroll, 10 for fast; and reversed the keybindings so that WASD is fast scroll and Shift+WASD is slow scroll of the game world itself, at 1 granular tile.
