captain of the guard killed someone for no reason

just title. a craftsdwarf was hanging out in the tavern, until my newly elected captain of the guard (the only dwarf with a lick of tactical knowledge, a female named catten) pounced on her and began beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of her. im talking biting fingers off, busting arteries open with her hands and feet, fracturing every bone in her body under a maelstrom of kicks. she tried to crawl to the hospital and died along the way, at the end of a river of blood. the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up thing is i dont even know why this happened. both dwarves are/were perfectly happy, the craftsdwarf hadnt committed any crime that got reported, and nobody stepped forward to report this as a murder. why

Look in the solved closed cases tab of your justice screen. Chances are, she broke some production mandate or brought some prohibited items to the depot that were traded away.

Well, summary judgement, at least. A beating isn't meant to be fatal, hence why your CoG let her go after beating her senseless. But dorfs aren't known for pulling their punches.
