Dwarf Fortress

Mud on made floors/ Baths
I thought mud wasn't suppose to form on floors that are made. I made a bath, and it constantly has mud on the bottom. The Dwarfs only ever clean the bath, where the mud just reforms immediately. Any way to prevent this.

Aside, how do I get my dwarfs to actively clean themselves? I have set up the bath as one of my meeting areas, but that doesn't seem to work. I have soap right next to the bath, inside the meeting area. I also have a well with 2 layer deep water, soap next to it in stockpile, again, no one going there to clean. These dwarfs are filthy.

From my observations, mud will very often form on surfaces exposed to standing water almost immediately.

I think that you have to designate a well as a water source for Dwarves to use it?

Creatures have an internal "filth" counter; when they get dirty enough they go to a well (or any designated water source) and take a bath. They'll take it sooner if they got especially dirty doing something i.e. getting lots of contaminants on themselves. Having soap available gives a better positive thought. You don't have to designate the well as a water source, it's treated as one as soon as you build it.

Mud appears whenever any amount of water drops on a dry tile. If your bath dries and then gets wet again, mud will be appearing there every time that happens.

If you can keep the bath from drying, by having at least 2-3 levels of water in it at all times, you can remove the mud from the bottom. You need to build something there that will not displace the water from the tile, like a ramp. When you deconstruct the ramp, the mud will be removed, while the tile remains wet and doesn't get muddy.

There is no way to get dwarves to clean themselves, they decide when to do it.
