Chat GPT can be use to translate the game

i don’t have any clue about how gpt works etc, i’m spanish so, my dream has always been to be able to play dwarf fortress in my language, but i’m aware that the system that the game uses to generate text makes this almost impossible, i was thinking that, some kind of ia trained with text about the game, stories inside the game etc can be useful to make the translations in real time, what do you think? (obviously this is only theoretical, don’t take this too seriously)

You're probably onto someone's future project: There are already Chrome Extensions using ChatGPT to translate / summarize information. (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/usechatgptai-chatgpt-copi/mhnlakgilnojmhinhkckjpncpbhabphi) I wouldn't be surprised if there'd be an AI 'Co-Pilot' or companion that could alter game files to make them more user friendly... Like automatically translating games or perhaps filling in a second player role.

This would probably be like 10+ years out to get something integrated with computers and usable on an individual level though, there's so many hoops to jump through even with the AI we have now, there's so many things going on in the background to make them work.

You wouldn't need to translate it in real time for every user though, that's a waste of computation and power and resources. It could for sure help to translate the text in the game, which could be implemented into a localized mod? Not sure where the game stores all the text and if such is moddable, but yea?

In that case it could be easily doable right now by mere copy paste; paste back, save -> mod. Revisit and fix lost in translations by user input. From my experience ChatGPT is very good at translating text.


As an aside I had a great interaction with ChatGPT yesterday; in this chat thread, it titled the discussion: "Confused user, clear answer", lol
