UPDATE: strip attempt failed. Dwarves did nothing. user input error somewhere but don't understand where

just use the UI buttons instead, select dumping tool, select all the cages, then click on every cage and manually "undump" them. Dwarfs should then haul all items to the dumping zone. There will be no visual confirmation that it worked though, which is annoying, so just watch your dwarfs after you do that. It works, I've done it multiple times. No need to "unforbid" or anything, just dump.

Hang on this is the part where I don't understand. First, I dump the prisoner with the cage, and then I undump the whole cage itself and that will strip the prisoner? This is the part where I don't understand.

Iirc, the cage and all things in it are marked for dumping, including the prisoner's gear. Then you reclaim the cage to get access to the prisoner again

The prisoners have forbidden clothes on them. You have to unforbid the clothes, and mark them for dumping.

The easiest way to do it is to directly mass flag for dumping the entire stockpile where you have cages, and then mass unforbid. But you don't want the cages dumped, just the clothes. So undump the cages.

You could do the same by finding the forbidden clothing in the stocks menu instead, and dump/unforbid it. But it's easier and faster to do it the first way.

this ^ don't dump cages separately, mass dump all storage with cages (Select the tool and then designate an area on storage). I'm not sure if dumping the cage manually (by selecting it and clicking to dump) would work, so just use the tool.
I never unforbid before I mass dump and they always strip them naked. Maybe it changed in steam version.

That would dump the cage itself, not the clothes. To do it that way, you'd need to select the creature in the cage, then select and dump each of his items. Which is a pain, because you can't go back to his item list, you have to select the creature and every next item separately.

Opportunity arrived. Attempt failed. Still can't strip. Whenever i do the whole i > p > bandbox and then deselect cage my dwarves do nothing.

Deselect the cage in the cage? Or the cage where their name is on it? ?? I don't know which cage to deselect
