Do metal blocks weigh less than bars?
I've got a 25 z-level pit, and I'm trying to make sure the floor is the heaviest thing I can get my hands on. I heard that iron was pretty dense, so I went ahead and paved the floor with iron blocks.

The wiki is a little confusing, it says that making blocks out of items reduces their weight, except in the case of metal blocks. Do I need to replace the floor? (Preferably things explode on impact, I'm dealing with zombie invasions here.)

Blocks are lighter than stone boulders. Not sure about bars of metal, you need to check how many bars go into a block.

Lead, silver, gold and platinum are all heavier than iron actually.

Floor impact damage depends on the density, rather than the weight, so blocks vs bars of the same substance should perform the same in zombie-splash tests. The densest commonly available material is platinum (as blocks, bars, or ore).

Density is a property of the material; an iron floor is an iron floor whether it's made of blocks or bars.
