engraving profession filter not working?

I set 2 of my dwarfves with the "only selected" as engravers, still everyone feels the need to engrave his tiny stories and childish pear and shoe pictures into the walls

Did you ordered them to engrave before you enabled the "only selected" option? When they were already assigned to the job they won't stop. In that case time should fix it.

I did before designating, but maybe the game didn't realize it at that moment, I'll gonna observe it next time some engraving is to be done.

Any followup to this? I've found my engravers only engrave when they have stonecutting selected as well. Then I have the problem that they would rather go carve rock blocks.

Hmm, I have only a couple guys as engravers so I can level up their skill, and I set their little button from green to red, and all works as intended. Not sure what's going wrong for you, sorry. From what you said it seems like it should work?

Cutting stone blocks should be linked to the stone smoothing, not the stone engraving job. So that is very weird. Are you sure you aren't going off the old version of DF when they were the same job? Or did you make sure that the "only the selected do this" button is clicked?

I've got engraving set to "everybody does this", but the dwarfs are selected as doing it. Even with this changed to "only selected do it" they still don't. They are locked to task but only do engraving jobs if stonecutting is selected for them as well, in which case they go and cut boulders. Odd, but there are workarounds.

It works for me having "only selected do this" and having my guy as a miner and an engraver.

Are you sure you aren't confusing the smooth and engrave orders? I set a single dwarf for engraving and everyone to smooth (since it seems not to have a quality) and you have to smooth rock before you engrave.

Also make sure of the priority you have set for engraving order (when you click what you want engraved). Since my engraver usualy starts out as a miner i use priority 1 and 2 for engravings and he'll skip the mining orders i have around, which i usualy put at priority 3 & 4.

I always thought that stone engraving and stone smoothing were the same. IS this a change amd anyone know which one of the below is for smoothing?
In the work detail I see Stone working has:
MAsonry
Stone Carving
Stone Cutting
Stone Engraving

Stone cutting= smoothing and making blocks (think it's also cut tracks, fortifications, and some other stuff)
Stone carving= furniture, etc. (think of this as everything in the workshop except blocks)
Stone engraving= only engraving

Oh, and yes, this is a change to the .50 version of DF (both classic and premium)

I had the same problem. Turns out I made a new work detail for engraving without realizing that the game has a pre-generated work detail for engraving which was set to "everybody does this" and overwrote my custom work detail. After changing the pre-existing work detail everything worked fine.
