Do you have capslock on?
Some gaming keyboards can cause issues with many games. Check your keyboard's driver if it has one or force it to default to the system/OS setting.
Also, some periphreals can cause issues as well, so disable controllers or other I/O devices that may have inputs/controls. (Rare, but does happen for some games.)
There is no reason a standard keyboard, alone, should do what you describe unless the OS/Driver does something funky or you've remapped those keys in the game's option menu. You could try resetting the game's keymapping feature to default, just in case.
