Dwarf Fortress

Lost my Fortress due to goblins siege.
Damn I wasn't ready to be destroyed by a siege of at least 50 goblins and 20 beak dogs. How can you deal with that..? My squad got quicky wipe out.. Maybe i didn't train enough soldiers. It sucks to lose my fortress because i'm just lacking of knowledge. :deaths:

It was a massacre. From 110 dwarfs to zero. Lmao

yeah losing 110 dwarves to 50 goblins means you did something wrong.

basic tips:
1. make defenses
2. if you really think you gonna lose, try fighting when defenses fail

Training, good numbers, nice elaborate traps, murder halls & more. Plenty of ways to deal with sieges. The only limit is your imagination!

or lock the doors?

what would happen if you do that and train more guys until you fight them? Will there be more goblins spawning?

By the way, will elves fight goblins if they appear at your map too?

The surprise when you get your first siege, and seeing your fort completely run over by the green horde is an invaluable FUN moment. It should make for a good story on legends mode, and you can later decide to reclaim the fort or take revenge against them!

As for dealing with sieges, there are countless ways. You can wait them out by sealing your entrance with a drawbridge, war train animals such as bears / elephants and unleash them on the siege, build cage / weapon traps, build a ballistae hallway, build a drowning chamber..
Goblins rely on sheer numbers when attacking, so 1 squad, even if fully trained, will have a hard time going up against all of the units in a siege.

I've sealed my fort.. But meh.. I wanted to see if my 10 soldiers was enough against those greenish bastard. I've already fought one siege, but it was only 10 gobs. This time.. It was not a joke.

Technically, my fortress got raided 3 times. But one time, elven tried to raid me at the same time I was being raided by gobs. So they fought each other. lmao

Yeah, I was lacking of traps i guess. and soldiers. Next time, i'll train at least 50 dwarfs. xD

I don't really know how to make technical things such as drowning room and this kind of stuff. I kinda new to the game. Even if i already played the ASCII version.

Don't worry, I never made anything besides a humble trapped hallway, and the most I've trained is 20 dwarves. Training 50 dwarves can be FUN if you're planning on going on many raids, but for sieges I won't recommend it. That's too many precious dwarves off the workforce.

Is it a good idea to make all my dwarf wear metal or leather armor ?

Save often heh. And make sure you have a few squads that are pimped out in gear and, most importantly, well-trained.
Jod! Dec 18, 2022 @ 2:36pm
Get one axedwarf squad with full iron armor. Steel is even better but might take too long. And a marksdwarf squad, stationed behind fortifications along your narrow trap hallway with 20 or so cage traps and 50 stone traps. By the time the goblins make it through they'll be battered enough for your axedwarves to mop them up.

I'm a big fan of metal armor, it's incredibly effective at protecting your dwarves' vitals during combat, especially as they get better at using armor after training for a while. Besides, it's not very dwarf like for them to wear filthy leather armor - the metals within the earth make for far more fitting armor for a true dwarf!

If you really were at 10 soldiers with a population of 110, you have learned a valuable lesson for the future :):cozycastondeath:

Let me introduce you to the magic of Isolationism:
W - Wall
C - Channel (number behind defines how many z layers deep)
D - Drawbridge
F - Fortress path inside mountain

C5C5C5C5C5
C5WWWWWWW
C5WWWWWWW
DDDDDDFFFFFFF
DDDDDDFFFFFFF
DDDDDDFFFFFFF
C5WWWWWW
C5WWWWWW
C5C5C5C5C5

While extended the Drawbridge covers another C5 channel, 3 wide, while being detractet, it acts as wall and due to the C5 Channel, Gobbos won't be able to damage your Drawbridge.

Only flying Megabeast will be able to bring you some FUN, or the caverns ;)
