Dwarves not sparring?
Played the game while it was ASCII, and generally dwarves would start sparring after training themselves for a little while. But none of my dwarves are trying to spar at all.

From what I can see, literally no dwarves spawn with any of the commander-related skills, and I don't think they can gain said skills without somebody else being present with them...

Is their schedule on constant training? having both constant training schedule and training order is breaking it. training order gives their text green color and only makes them do individual training. if you cancel orders but have their schedule on constant training it will make the text yellow and when theyre skilled enough they'll start giving demonstrations and spar.

Have you assigned their squad to a barracks?

Trust me, I know how to get dwarves to spar. They simply refuse to do so.

They have a barracks, are set to train, they have equipment and so on.

I have some humans mixed in the squad, and I hope that isn't messing things up, considering they asked to join.

From what I've seen it works similar to previous versions where they would do individual training until they reach novice and then start sparring.

That isn't happening though, they've trained for a whole year and still aren't doing anything than personal training.

I think I figured it out though, and it's the most nonsensical thing ever. Set their routine to training but don't give them the training command. That makes them demonstrate and spar.
They don't feel like sparring.

Oh how insightful.

How about you post something of value? This is not mastercraft-tier at all.

Training should just auto trigger it, never had to manualy tell them to spar, but I noticed they only start sparring when they have wooden training weapons. Unless they are wrestlers maybe?, they might wrestle without training weapons. Not sure.

Using the little battleaxe UI to set them to train doesn't work.

Do they have weapons to train with?

Come on man I've played this game for close to 10 years.

Not to mention you don't need weapons to train with (wrestlers)

In this case yes they all have wonderfully crafted steel spears.

Right, either they have wooden training weapons or they dont. If they dont, make some and find out if they start training. If you do have wooden training weapons and are not training, then no idea man.

Bingo, that's what I figured out. But that's nonsensical and must surely be hurting new players.

Dwarves will happily train with lethal weapons, they don't need training ones.

weird, cause ive had stockpiles of weapons yet none of my squads trained with them. Is there anything linkd to their proficiency before they train with lethal weapons?
