If people die a bunch, less migrants will come. But you should build beds anyway in preparation.
That explains alot I get a few at the start then bam 20 dwarfs rock up overwhelming me
I think the default cap is 200. I have a fort thats been stable there for quite a while and I have dug deep enough to start finding artifact armor and magma columns. The only time I get migrants now is when some dwarfs die and its never enough to push the population past 200.
I'm thinking about doing that...
Do you know if there's any specific "fulcrum point" that is hazardous there, aside from just the obvious increased CPU load? IOW - Is there a number there that kicks of a known problem with population outside of what should be expected in additional processing load? (Sometimes, games can have such issues if an ignorant player starts mucking around with settings.)
My old potato runs this pretty well for being a potato... (OLD i7, 8gig Ram, on an SDD, Win7Pro... (airgapped), does alright..) I'd like to see where it becomes a slideshow, though.
