THANK YOU ITS FRUSTRATING AS HELL!
You have to learn to use that screen. It's simple enough.
FYI there's ways to get them to place armor in the barracks chest, armor stands, etc. Another part you have to learn. The wiki is invaluable.
I have to manually equip them the missing armor (red) WTF why even have an auto uniform option if its broken? And yes I understand the yellow means they are equipping. The wiki is out of date but I still use it.
My military had its first stress test today - a goblin siege. I had three squads of what I thought were reasonably trained, well equipped soldiers. In their finest hour, when called up to duty after YEARS of training/simulation, about 9 of the 16 troops decided to show up - despite ample time to gather in front of my base. Several of them forgot to put their pants on that morning and figured they'd YOLO it with no armor. Only one of my archers decided it would be a good idea to bring bolts along with the crossbow (the other three prefer using crossbow as a melee bashing tool, apparently). The two things that saved me from a complete massacre were the 5 war dogs loitering around my front entrance, and how the goblins charged in a piecemeal fashion. I guess I have to laugh at the whole thing though, despite the frustration.
Bahaha thats some good stuff. I'm really loving the game but I feel like things still need to be ironed out. I just have this bug where I cant mine anything on a specific floor. I can mine above and below, but no one will mine on the that floor, and yes I checked burrows. Was a 15 year old fort, defeated some black mass boss thingy, troll, giant and massacred 1000s of gobs, guess ill retire and run a new fortress. Gonna miss that place. RIP Cloverhammers.
That is another quirky thing with armor, with how layering works shoes get in the way of dwarves putting on boots for some reason, the only way I've gotten dwarves to consistently put on their high boots is to set them to only wear their uniform instead of wearing it over their clothes.
that worked half way. Now only half are not equipping boots and gloves. Oh well. Thanks for the help everyone. Gonna Strike the earth on a new map.
