My Little Pony Mods - Replacing player civs/races with custom races
This is a modding question on custom races, back in the day as well as playing Dwarf Fortress with dwarves, I quite liked adding in custom races like the raws for
My Little Pony: The Ponies themselves consisting of Earth, Unicorn, Pegasi, Diamond Dogs, Changelings, Griffons, Zebras.
But I'm having trouble locating a particular set of raws.
So I'd thought I'd ask the community.
Ideally I just want some pony races to add to the existing dwarf/human/goblin/elves, etc. or replace them.
So I'd thought I'd ask around for a how to turtorial on modding.
Intention of this disscussion thread is to ask for some pony race mod file links that will overall the game, but I suppose it could also be a thread for swapping out races with custom ones, playing as Orcs, etc.
(Before posting check with the pinned rules for steam discussions, if this is subject is not your thing, that's fine, but I don't need to know if this isn't your interest. Others might be.)

Ideally for a MLP themed civ mod:

Would need the mod plugin that allows all major civs to be playable.

But I would envision the following being playable:

-Ponies (Unicorns, Earth Ponies, Pegasi, together as a tribe with an Alicorn head ruler)
-Zebras
-Diamond Dogs
-Yaks
-Changelings

(Maybe also:
-Kirin?
-Hippogriffs?
-Crystal Ponies)

So I shall be looking through some of the old mods.
I'll just be wanting to add them in.
Not particularly interested in any custom technologies or buildings.
Ideally one of the raws which has custom cutie marks for ponies, etc.

Some mods add all manner of additional fanmade races like spider ponies, etc.
But I would just prefer raws which match the show.

I just want to come back here to point out how funny it is steam support deleted my post that was mostly a joke referencing Fallout but not the ones were I called people autistic, never change steam support, actual troglodytes. :lunar2019laughingpig:

In 40.07 the raws are located at:

Dwarf Fortress/raw/objects/
creature_standard.txt contains descriptions of the default intelligent species: dwarves, humans, elves, goblins, kobolds, gremlins, trolls, ogres, unicorns, dragons, etc.

entity_default.txt contains descriptions of the main civilization types, characterized by their natural environment.

If you want to have the civ controllable in Fortress mode, add [SITE_CONTROLLABLE] to its tags. The [CREATURE: ] tag links to an entry in entity_default.txt

I've managed to find some old raw files that other people have made for previous MLP mods.
The advantages will be much of the work is/should already be done.

I've managed to put the folder with those files in them, including entity files for the various creatures.
And I've created an info.txt file for the steam version to recognise the files as a mod.
I've managed to launch world creation with the Pony races in and the world generates.
By removing the vanilla bodies and entities and adding the mod.
If the vanilla bodies/entities files aren't deactivated, might generate a world with both default civs and pony ones, but on the one world I generated, legends didn't load correctly and crashed.
With the vanilla files deactivated for entities, etc.
It seems to generate a world where the civiliisations are Ponies, Buffalo, Yaks, Griffons, Changelings, Diamond Dogs, etc.
Legends seems to record okay.
Game boots up in fortress mode, tutorial works.
The Ponies load in. Game is initially playable.
The Ponies have Blueish Blob looking sprites?
I assume this is because they have no defined sprite?

I can't reload the saves though. Game crashes upon attempting to load units or items?

While it would be somewhat of a shame, removing Flying from the various MLP mods would help make such an overhaul mod possible.

I'd probably stick to a 'pre-alicorn era' vibe and make each pony type their own civ; maybe with a more rare 4th civ type of all three pony types living together.

Ponies could replace Elves, Griffons replace Humans, and Diamond Dogs replace the Dorfs for a simple mod.

If you're a fan of the game "Hearts of Iron 4" I wholeheartedly recommend trying out the Equestria At War mod.

There already was a mlp mod also a fallout equestria mod for dwarf fortress on the 12 bay forums they had all the races they could add as part of the overall pony civilization then things like lings and zebras as other civilizations, giving as far as I can tell the modding method for the steam version remains unchanged from the classic version I'd suggest a little bit of ye old programming homework copying. you make need to get help with the sprites though

modding is relatively simple for dwarf fortress, I recently modded my own game to make unicorns war trainable which was rather funny.

Yeah, unfortunately Dwarf Fortress isn't currently built with flying dwarves in mind. From what I remember, it's due to the pathfinding algorithm. Flying creatures still require a land-accessible path to their target, and then the game recalculates an air path for them. If a pegasus lands on a roof, they'll get stuck because they can no longer find a valid walkable path to their destination.
At least that's how I remember it. I've been away from Dorf Fort for quite a few years, no idea if Toady fixed it by now.
