YOU'RE MEANT TO GLAZE IT, NOT DROWN IT you DONKEY
Is there any way to stop Dwarves using alcohol in the production of food - apart from waiting for drink to appear, then banning it from the kitchen?

My ChefDwarf Ramsey seems to be using up all the alcohol to cook with - leaving all the dwarves to drink the dirty water.

He's also using up all the Purple Mushroom seeds as garnish - and setting up a tantrum spiral

things you don't want to be cooked if you're low on supplies:
* alcoholic drinks
* seeds
* tallow (used for soap)

The problem is - I can't adjust the permissions on stock I don't have yet - and if they brew some Cherry Wine - Ramsey is already cooking it before I can block the permission.

Just wondering if there was a way of blocking tallow/seeds/drink by default.

You could separate your drinks and food stockpiles so the drinks are further away. It won't necessarily stop it, but they'll naturally path to the closer items and that gives you more of a chance to take off the drinks in the kitchen menu.

Linking stockpiles is probably the most reliable and fire and forget. Or turn off the cooking until you build up some stocks. They won't starve.

Both great ideas - thank you!

just stop producing food until you have a barrel of booze and then ban it in kitchen tab, no need to reengineer your entire kitchen
