Corpses and Bones, Never touched for years(screenshots included)
A couple years ago I was attacked, the invaders were killed but no one will haul their bodies to the dump or stockpiles.

Please help me. All the other stock piles have corpses and refuse not checked (except shells)

You may have "Workers Ignore Outdoor Refuse" turned on (which it is by default)

Hit "u" to open the citizen menu.

Then go to Labor > Standing Orders > Refuse And Dumping.

It is the 2nd from the top item. Click it to toggle it onto "Workers Gather Outdoor Refuse"

That should let them grab the dead bodies. You'll also want to make sure none of it is forbidden (at least, until they dump it)

That should solve the problem.

No. Thank's for the response though. You'll see I included a link to the screenshots.

Same problem... have made sure Standing Orders permit it... have plenty of spare graves and refuse stockpiles with the correct permissions. Plenty of dwarves available to haul. Nobody will touch corpses anywhere... they just sit there for months so far.

not sure, but dumping corpses/skulls/bones may mean you need an actual dump zone, not corpse or refuse stockpile for that to work?

sorry didnt notice you have one on the 1st screen. no idea then

Maybe this will help you. This is my setup and they bring corpses IMMEDIATELY. i had to forbid corpses during sieges or my civs would run to pick them up

I have the same settings... I eventually got one method to work which was to make a huge new stockpile underground and set it to refuse... also got more immigrants in which freed up some of the workers. I think picking up bodies is very low on the priority list.

I still can't get them to take them to a dumping zone.

Where is your dumping zone?

The dumping zone is at the edge of a river outside the base.

It seems that you have assigned both mining and hunting to some dwarves, or woodcutting and hunting. That should not be allowed. Try removing that, and remake your dump zones and stockpiles.

The most useless suggestion so far "have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Mining, woodcutting and hunting are labors that have uniforms and cause many problems when more than one is enabled on a single dwarf. In regular DF you can't do it because of that.

I never have more than one job assigned to a single dwarf, there's plenty of dwarves to distribute the labor. I have 2 dwarves dedicated to just refuse and nothing else. Should I dedicate a couple of dwarves to just hauling?

I've created a corpse stockpile behind a door next to my general stockpile, like the one that was effective for bones. I've made sure my standing orders are for workers to gather outdoor refuse, save corpses, bones, hair etc. I've created a custom hauling job detail and assigned 10% of my population to it. Half of those I also forbade from doing other, unassigned jobs. No miners, woodcutters or hunters are double-assigned to any of those three jobs.

It's been a couple months. Arsdruk Adesurar's skeleton is still sitting on the main stairwell at the exact center of my base, right next to the temples, guildhalls and library. Although thankfully now it has stopped rotting and releasing miasma and is just a skeleton.

I suppose I can just leave it there. Along with the three other goblin bat monster corpses which are up at the surface level. Two are immediately next to the top entrance of my stairwell, and the other one is on top of my butcher's workshop.

So all my dwarfs are seeing all these skeletons multiple times a day, every day. Forever. And there is NOTHING I can do about it.

This, on top of the fact that about half of my many, many dogs are seriously injured and I can't treat them. And they're walking around in pain all the time.

Either one would be demoralizing. Both together are making me want to retire this fort. This is my best fort so far and I was really attached to it.

I can prepare carefully next time and just not ever have any dogs. Hell, I can just not ever have any *livestock* until there's a way to give them medical treatment when they get hurt.

EDIT: Okay I finally got something to work. My problem was that my garbage dump zone was *outside*. Once I put a garbage dump zone INDOORS, next to the new corpse stockpile I'd made, suddenly all the dwarfs on my hauling detail started bringing rotten food and discarded clothing to it. And eventually, they even got around to the horrible skeletons scattered along the main stairwell!
