No conversations in adventure mode

After the last patch I'm having occasional occurrences in adventure mode where conversations wont happen or aren't working. Whether I try to talk to someone or just passing through a town.

I'm having the same or similar issue, I thought I'd screwed up my settings. Sometimes it works, it might have to do with saving and reloading, but I haven't double checked.
You can add a popup to the conversation announcement, it won't work like before, and you have to remember to turn it off for fortress mode (or if it gets annoying).
Announcements: Other|Report should show Conversation.

Restarting the game usually fixes this issue for me. I believe it happens after backloading a save or starting a new adventure mode game after retiring a previous character or fort?
