A quick question about map icons. (Adventure Mode)

I've been playing more adventure mode lately, and I'm liking some of the new(er) map updates, but the one thing that's got me confused is what the new traveling icons mean. I see red shields and blue dots from time to time. I would have assumed blue means friendly(ish) and red is hostile, but that doesnt always seem to be the case. I tried doing some homework to find out, but I didnt see anything in the last few patch notes or on the forums about it, so I decided to ask.

Not to sidetrack my own post, but in addition to my other question, I was also wondering about that tiny little dot next to your character icon (not just your character but everyone (possible just in combat)) it changes color sometimes and I'm not sure what thats telling me. I think it might have something to do with when you're spotted/engaged/hidden in combat, but i really dont know and I feel that I should.

Assume you found the answer to the dot next your Char and others, (you), friendly, brawl (wont fight to death), red is lethal fight to death, cant remember the last off the top of my head. As of the overmap no clue I believe they are to denote Groups maybe? as they don't seem to be tied to hostile or not

Blue you/companion, green allied (I think ?), yellow "brawl", red "lethal". Brawl mean you can still holster your weapon and ask for the fight to stop. Brawl are allowed in cities and town. Lethal mean it's to the death (unless you run away, I guess). This is illegal in cities against "innocent" civilians. If the neemy is a vampire or something, be sure to accuse them before and have him admit their guilt.
