dragons , adventure mode , creature stats and ages
so i have two question guys.. i killed my first dragon . it was 340 years old , not fully grown but small-mid.. it killed nearly 30 soldier . but my military was not good and i was able to kill it. i mean it feels very easy for me.
So according to wiki ;
At 320 years, a dragon is the size of a hydra.
At 800 years, a dragon is the size of a bronze colossus or an adult roc.
After 1000 years, a dragon is the second largest creature found on land.

i killed hydra size dragon ez with bad army

so at 800 it become bigger then at 1000 year it become biggest final size right ? does it matter in power aspect much ? i thought that dragons strongest creatures..

also animal, monster , megabeasts whatever called has random stats ? or every 380 aged dragon have same stats ?

my other question is i see 200 age createure in 100 years old world .. how its possible ?

and my last question is , for example while i was playing with fortress mode can i stop and play adventurer mode at my fortress and then can i switch again back to fortress mode ? or i create a world , build a fortress after sometime i switch to adventure mode and explore world do whatever want and with treasures i looted can i go back to my fort and switch game to fortress mode to get those tresures which i loot with my one of dwarfs at adventrur mode :D

i hope you can understand my english is not that good.

Thank You

sorry I really can't decipher the question about the dragon stuff but for the other ones, creatures in dwarf fortress can have ages that are older than the world it self, since year 1 just means the start of the recorded history of the world, not reality as it is. the true age of the realm is unknown and will not be explored until we get the myth and magic update, so if you see a forgotten beast older than the world, you can just assume he existed before the world it self, maybe it comes from another realm, that kinda stuff.

yes, you can retire your fortress, start an adventure mode character, and then retire them at the fort you want to replay at, and then reclaim the fortress to go back where you left off, though some of your dwarves, items and other things may have left the fortress or moved around differently from where they were before.

Dragons are not the strongest creatures you'll fight, don't worry :)

In fact, a dragon can be defeated by a simple cage trap. If you can manage that, it might help you later with something even more dangerous...

Forgotten beasts (underground) and titans (above ground) are indeed random. They can have random attacks and be made of random materials, so some are very easy and some are a real problem. Ones that are made of metal and have breath attacks can be much harder than a dragon.

Also, if you're looking for a real challenge... try being too greedy and digging too deep. I've heard there's unusual gem covered walls near the bottom of the world. Just ripe for the harvest, no?

Good luck!

:D awwwwwwww crazy game ... does dragons have random stat? and can you give detail about sizeof them i mean i fighted with hyrda size dragon. after that there are two bigger size or one ? and how much they power scale

Yes, it is a silly game xD

Unlike forgotten beasts, dragons are not random. There are not different elements of dragon or anything.
Dragons don't come in specific sizes like "medium" "large" "giant". Instead, it's more like "this dragon weights 124kg" "this dragon weighs 126kg" "this dragon weighs 320kg" and every different number has very slightly different stats. Bigger (older) dragons do more damage because bigger animals of any species do more damage but I don't know specifics. They can be caught in traps just the same though...

They are not a scary endboss like you seem to be looking for. Think of them more like really scary wild animals. There are cave dragons too, which don't count as a megabeast so your world doesn't have a limited number of them.

But yes, if you'd like more trouble, don't worry! There is more trouble to find :)

Thank You

You can retire a fort and return to it, but it can potentially lead to problems and some things have to be taken into account for a smooth process. There is a thread (for the ASCII version, i think, but Steam and ASCII version will be aligned anyway and the most should work for both. Just be ready for weird stuff happening):

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=176527.0

As for the beasts that are older than 100 years: These 100 years is only the time of historical documentation and the first civilizations. As in RL, the world can be much older. This time before that will be addressed in the Myth and Magic update, among other things. But that may take some time. Progress in development is very, very slow in this game in particular.

Here you can about it.

The official forum of Dwarf Fortress (12baygames Forum) is still a fantastic place to go for questions or discussions.

The wiki is using those as examples to show you how dragons grow over time. A dragon doesn't have to be exactly one of those sizes - they grow smoothly in between.

As Nilserrich mentioned you can check the official dwarf fortress website - Bay 12 Games - for development updates. Some also get posted on Steam if you scroll to the top of this page and click on 'news'. I also just know stuff 'cause I've played a lot, like that some forgotten beasts are annoying :P

If you want to read the history of your dwarf world, Nils is also right that you'd need to temporarily retire your fortress. It's an option when you first select to play in a new world, you can pick "Fortress Mode", "Adventure Mode" and "Legend Mode" - the last of which isn't really a "mode" but instead a list of all historical events. If you just wanna check it and keep playing, you can "save to new timeline" when unretiring your fort and then delete that version after you're done checking Legends.

But I don't know what you mean by "secure the walls of your warehouse" though. Do you mean your warehouse is outside, or that it gets stolen from? You should usually store your goods underground, near your crafting stations - and your whole fort's entrance should be guarded by traps and war animals. Even just stationing a few dogs near your entrance deters most would-be thieves. If really want to build above ground, remember you can build walls and roofs.
If this doesn't answer your question do let me know!

And you're welcome ^.^

You can check the volume of any creature in-game using DFHack's "gui/unit-info-viewer". It will tell you its exact volume and whether it's average or not for its species and age, as well as its relative weight compared to other creatures e.g. dwarves, elephants, etc…

wow guys thanks you very much i will chk forums.. i guess main source is knowledge offical forums instead of wiki
Saver Sigonith Nov 13, 2024 @ 11:20pm
...No xD
The wiki is in general way clearer and more accurate than a forum post.
The forum just has two things:
- Updates about how the game is being made (which is not usually on the wiki)
- Original research and anecdotes by players (which the wiki often links to when relevant)
So if you're looking for those, that's on the forum. If you wanna know about game mechanics, that's on the wiki. Hope this helps!
