Lazy Noob?
There any sort of launcher for the steam version like we had for ascii? Anyone know if not if anyone is actively working on this?

Thanks!

There wasn't last time I checked, mostly because the tilesets had not been updated.

Not sure if there will be launchers for the steam version (at least not a zip file with the launcher and the game, that's for sure) since the biggest draw for the lazy newb pack was the ability to easily get tilesets installed and get dfhack.
The steam version has a tileset by default and dfhack is easier to get than before.

All that would be left would be tweaking some basic things like aquifer and such I guess?

It came with a suite of external utilities and some extremely handy settings to change your INI files with a graphical interface. Useful even if one did only use 1 tileset.

There's nothing useful in that launcher for the Steam version. Everything you need has been implemented in the settings interface.

Jumping here instead of making a new post.... the most thing I wanted in lazyb, were the legends viewers....
So... they were implemented finally in the steam version?, I remember at launch it was barebones if even... O.O

Legend viewer worked fine from the start, it's just that the game no longer exported as much in legend mode and I believe there are still things like the map that are not part of the export.

Could be wrong of course as I have not exported data for quite a while and perhaps dfhack as well as the game changed what is exported from then.

In the forums (DF ones, not STEAM)... I remember a post saying that they were waiting on the STEAM version to export before trying to do it by them.... And apparently both (DFHACK and STEAM version) are waiting for the other to do it... =P

Not sure what "STEAM version" means in this context.
I mean, the version on steam only has a tileset and soundtrack compared to the bay12 version.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same "they", ToadyOne and Putnam would be the game's devs, the dfhack team (which has a lot of different people doing it on their free time like other modders) and maybe people from legend viewer as well included in some of the "they".

DFHack does have something to export more data as it used to but images of the world map are not included.
Not sure it was ever something DFHack exported in the first place to be honest.

Still, even without the map, legend viewer works fine with the exported data from the game and the extra from DFHack.
It might not have all of what was available in 0.47 (which is sad because those maps were nice to be able to understand the layout of the world) but you can still browse the legends like before.

Oh, sorry!!!... found it =)

in lethosor words it was:
"Right, we haven't attempted to recreate anything that DF pre-v50 exported, assuming the DF feature would come back in less time than it would take us to recreate those features."

That's why I was saying something about both, DF "steam" (or DF in this case) and DFHack kinda waiting for the other to implement the export of the rest of the info like it used to be. O.O
So I guess I got the things wrong....
argh... I can't decide to buy since, in my case, I use more Legends than the Fort mode itself, as I make short-stories for Nanowrimo based on Dwar Fortress legends info. =P

Not "wrong", just a bit confusing perhaps.
That post clarifies that the missing stuff in the export used to be by the game itself so thanks for the link.

If your main mode is legend mode (or rather exported data from there), there is little reason to get the steam version in the first place as it doesn't benefit much from not being ascii anyway.
The free version having the same stuff and the usage of legend viewer (or the more recent legend browser 2) further reinforces the fact that you don't need the premium tileset.
Legend mode itself is better than it used to be in older versions at least, but it used to be so bad that it would be hard to do worse, and it is still not as good a third party tools reading the exported data.

Oh thanks!... rushing to the latests versions then... O.O (as almost all the old third party viewers are outdated and having errors I was thinking about the "main" one. O.O
