Can't install Mods
Hey, so I have some mods I'm subscribed to, but I can't use them. They're in the properties for the game, but I can't find anywhere in game to turn on. I've checked settings, world building settings, etc and I can't find an option for mods, or find the mods themselves. They aren't active, I don't have them in game. Any tips? :)

So you do it when you create your world. I think it's the first screen where you pick land size and all that. There's a button in the lower right (I believe) for mods.

Then you have to click them over from the left to the right (it makes sense when you see it). Check to make sure none of them are orange--if they are you may need to remove a mod or just put it higher up in the load order.

Does that make sense?

Edit: So I just checked--when you hit "create world" the first screen has the mod button on the lower right of the screen. It's a gray button (I believe the "create world" button is green, and it's right next to it).
I don't have that option. I have Create World in green, Detailed Mode in grey and back to main menu in red. No other options. Mod options aren't in "Detailed Mode" either.

Looks like you got it figured out. Glad you did!

That means the program hasn't recognized that you have any downloaded mods.
A) Are you sure they've downloaded from Steam?
B) If yes, check the dwarf fortress file folder. There should be a subfolder called "mods". This is where downloaded but never used mods should be. In this subfolder, there will be an additional subfolder for each mod. The subfolder names are just numbers. Once you've used a mod it will be copied to the DF subfolder data/installed_mods where there will be an additional subfolder for each mod, this time with the mod name instead of a number.

So, basically, confirm that they've downloaded and are in the right place.

They appear in the properties for the game, however both mod files within are empty. Do I need a mod/software that enables mods? My friend suggested I might need "DF Hack" on Steam but that doesn't sound correct?

I found it. They were downloaded to a separate, incorrect folder as you said and I've moved them to the correct location, and they seem to be working now. Thanks:)

Are you using Linux?

No, but it's been resolved anyway. My mod files downloaded to a workshop folder in my main steam file on my boot drive, I moved them to the mods folder on my storage HDD that has DW on it.

Am just trying to work out why it isn't working as intended, did you move the game to HDD via steam, or did you just copy the files in windows?

I installed the game to my HDD, downloaded the mods via Workshop and they were placed in the incorrect location, that's all it seems to have been. Doesn't happen with other games, and I added another mod to DW to test and it did the same again. Something I'll need to remember in the future - no doubt I'll play this obsessively, burn out and then not touch it for a month and have forgotten the mod issue by then.

When you see me here in a few month asking the same question, be nice please. I'm an idiot.
