Dwarf Fortress

Tree hugger dwarfs.
I saw the announcement of the new update so i generated a new world and embarked on a new fortress, but i noticed something kinda weird, all of the seven dwarfs were very fond of walking outside, more so the expedition leader, who had a profound love for animals and nature.

i thought it would be a fun run with those nature loving dwarfs, until i realized they would not cut down any trees, i tried to proceed with the fortress and managed to acquire some wood from trading, but eventually they stopped mining too.

I don't know if it was a bug or if i missed some order (i can't think at anything that could have occurred and i'm not that new to the game), what i'm going to do now is another world embark on another civi, and then i'll purge the hell out of those elves cosplayers.

Starting dwarves often at least don't mind being outside too much (even when it is raining I mean).
Similarly, loving nature is a trait dwarves can have, making them unhappy if they hunt or cut trees.

It doesn't make them unable to cut trees, hunt or mine though.
Those 3 jobs require a tool, so they conflict with each others and a dwarf can only have one enable at the same time of they will do none.

Similarly, when dwarves are not doing something they should be doing, it is a good idea to check if they might be overworked, which leads to many things being left undone for potentially a long time.

As far as I know there are no bugs like that, but I am far from knowing all bugs.

Here is the thing, they were not overworked, they were spending a lot of time in the tavern, i assigned specific jobs for each dwarf so they would not be conflicted in that manner, the tools needed were also available, i tried to make mining an open job, so someone would be able to do, but nothing happened.

I had a similar problem. My axes were being held by military dwarves and even if the are woodcutters, they will not cut wood. They are weird like that

What do you mean by "I tried to make mining an open job"?
I ask in case you don't know that only dwarves assigned to the mining task and who have a pick equipped will mine. If they are also assigned to either hunting or woodcutting they may end up not doing any of those tasks as they can only equip themselves to do one of them.
You may already know the above, but thought I'd mention it on the off chance that you didn't.

Did you try putting the chop order at priority 1?

Of course, from the start.

yeah, i realized that latter, but i added a lot of the newcomers to the miner profession and nothing happened.

To give you a clearer view of when it happened, my dwarfs were minig a magnetite wall on the automine option, then they stopped, the automine was still selected but they would not do it, i tried cleaning all the mining orders and then placing then back, still no work.

It's probably something you did with labor and uniform assignments.

I can think of two reasons why your dwarfs don't mine or cut anything : The first is that your news miners or woodcutters don't have any tools to do their job, 'cause picks and axes aren't free.

The second is that they're hanging on the tavern or temple, probably. Breaks there lasts until (for what I witnessed) the concerned dwarf needs to sleep, drink or eat, so they lasts a long time and this "task" takes precedence on anything else.

TL;DR : Your miners or woodcutters don't have tools for the most part and the little who does are busy dancing or praying. They will NOT work while on break even if their lives depend of it.

Edit : I also forgot that workshops tasks takes more priority than any other jobs. If your miners are busy making clothes or processing food, they'll not mine until they have the time to do it AND have a tool AND aren't hanging in the tavern or temple.

Half breeds. Prob some elf saw a dwarf hugging a tree. The elf invited the dwarf to climb up then there was the dwarf and an elf sitting in a tree... we know how the rest goes
