Dwarf Fortress

PSA: Spoiler code words, so you don't ruin the !FUN! for others
One of the DF community's greatest achievements is a lack of spoilers. On the main Bay12 forums of course, but even on Reddit, people are very mindful of using both the code words and relevant spoiler tags. To that end, here are the most common words which represent end-game content, so you know both what to avoid as a new player, and what to use after experiencing end-game for yourself:

- Clowns, Clown Car, The Circus, Hidden Fun Stuff (HFS)
- Candy, Cotton Candy

Yes, it's a short list. This doesn't cover the entirety of what might be considered end-game, but is by far the biggest part of it. You'll know it when you get to it.

Edit: Thank you for the award, kind stranger :)

On the less spoilery side of things, dwarven atom smashers are bridges, Urist McDwarf is the community's generic dwarf name, insulting elves (excluding the few honorary dwarves) and all that they hold dear is mandatory and !FUN! usually involves magma, flooding, magma flooding, goblins, giant cave spiders, megabeasts and the occasional sober dwarf.

Clowns/The Circus are also sometimes called Hidden Fun Stuff (HFS)

The !! is used in DF to show something is on fire (like a !!dwarf!!), hence the dwarven concept of !!science!!

Good call, I'd completely forgotten about the HFS.

This is what I'm talking about. Completely unintentional, even casual conversation, because you just don't think about it. I'd argue that Megas, GCS, and magma are best left for discovery.

I can see the argument for the first two, sure. Magma, not so much. After all, magma is a real-life substance, and the presence of volcanoes on most worlds means that its existence in DF is given away nearly instantly. Furthermore, it's shown on the screenshots of the store page and easily recognisable as such.

Yes, no spoiling the fact that digging straight down is actually a good idea.

Did you know, when you reach z floor 1, you unlock a special material that allows you to build a portal to the next world?

Honestly this post will probably end up spoiling more things then actually preventing spoilers

You're the reason the game's Steam forum will quickly become a cesspool.

Maybe, maybe not. I thought it was worth the effort before this forum becomes trash. Anyone interested enough will quickly find the official Bay12 & Reddit.

"Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty."
Still, it's a commendable effort to keep spoilers off from your part.

Slade and slade are both rock, but one is hard rock and the other is both hard and heavy.

Last time I checked, it was already a cesspool. And it's not because of what I'm doing. As long as people have opinions about something there will be conflict.

It wasn't like anything I said was serious, yet you still took offense. Would be nice if we could all be a little more chill and relaxed. Let's all be civilized.
