Why won't dwarves haul Forgotten Beast bones to the proper stockpile?
I have a stack of 109 Forgotten Beast bones, along with a Forgotten Beast skull, that were carried to a Refuse stockpile outside (call it Stockpile A). I'm trying to have these items hauled to a dedicated Bone / Skull stockpile elsewhere (Stockpile B), but it's not happening for some reason...

- Stockpile A has Skulls and Bones turned off
- Stockpile B has Skulls and Bones turned on
- Stockpile A is set to give items to Stockpile B
- Collect refuse from outside is turned on

It almost seems like Forgotten Beast bones and skulls don't count as regular bones and skulls, because when I shrink Stockpile A to no longer include the items, they get hauled right back inside, even though the stockpile shouldn't take skulls and bones. Anyone know what the deal is here?

Is stockpile A also a body stockpile perhaps?
Forgotten beasts shouldn't be butcherable as far as I know and they should go on body stockpiles rather than refuse.

Forgotten beasts are butcherable, soapable, cookable etc. As long as they are made of flesh.

Is your "bones" actually a skeleton? In that case it's not bones until properly butchered. A skeleton is a corpse that goes to a refuse stockpile.

Stockpile A is also a body stockpile. These are definitely bones though, not a body. I was able to butcher the Forgotten Beast corpse which left behind these bones, skull, a bunch of meat, leather, and some shells. For some reason though the bones and skull were hauled off to this refuse stockpile that shouldn't even take bones and skulls.

It's not a corpse / skeleton, I had already butchered the corpse and these bones were part of the result. The item says bones [109] and has the same graphic as any other bones. And there's also a skull that also won't be hauled off.

Try just outright deleting the stockpile you dont want it on.

I tried this, the dwarves are still not hauling the items in. They are ignoring them as if they don't belong in bone / skull stockpiles. It seems that this has to be a bug where Forgotten Beast bones/skulls aren't recognized as bones/skulls.

I just tried issuing a work order to make bone bolts, and the dwarves proceeded to start carrying the bones to make the bolts. But as soon as I canceled the order, they brought them straight back to the same stockpile where bones are not allowed. So they are able to recognize the items as bones, just for some reason they're not being recognized properly by stockpiles...

It's just a "maybe", but maybe it is because it's from a non-standard race and it counts as "body part" or another similar refuse category.
Basically "it's not specifically an entry in the bones so for stockpiles" so it goes in the "anything else goes there" category.

Again, just a maybe but it doesn't sound that improbable at least.

I recommend just having 2 refuse piles, and set up to 2 butcher/tanner shops to localise it to the caverns and the surface then connect it via stockpile link directly, and workers will distribute the nearest corpse to the nearest stockpile. It worked for me when i had to chop up a forgotten beast turtle, just because they wouldn't bring it a distance of 45 layer xyz up before i could gather its skin and shell.

Hunters won't return kills on creatures from the caverns to a butcher shop on the surface for similar reasons and vice versa, its the natural fetch range for the job.
