Dwarf Fortress

Figuring out who belongs to a specific religion?
I just had a second religion ask for a temple in my fort, which is easy enough to do.
For some reason I can't appoint a priest (the list is empty) despite having 10 members for that religion.

I figured I should at least get a performer or two for that zone but I would prefer to use member of the religion for that, since it's a zone made specifically for them after they asked for it.

The problem is that I have no clue how to easily get that information.

Dwarf therapist apparently doesn't have a filter for groups, DFhack might have something but I failed to find it if it does.
The base game seems to only have the "groups" tab for each dwarf (going through over a hundred dwarves would just be too much work sadly).

Did I miss a way to get that information?

You didn't miss any way to get that info in the vanilla game.

It's basically "read their unit card" and that's it.

If you get the temple set up, just watch for Dorfs going there and pick the first one you see, read their unit card to be sure, then appoint them. It's what I do. If you don't have one that's suitable, just appoint a random performer.

Yeah group tab, but also the relationships tab

Sadly that temple seems to only get dogs and birds in it, my dwarves seem to mostly ignore my two religion-specific temples and instead crowd in the tiny one for no specific deity (it's further away so it's not even a distance thing).

Just some ideas off the top of my head... Maybe try temporarily deleting or pausing the zone for the other temple for a while and see what happens. Also maybe create another general temple near, behind, or even overlapping the specific temple.

Overlaps are not a good idea since all non-wall tiles that overlap get set to 0 value (it is easy to fall under the 2000 value because of that).

Pausing seems to not work all that well either, people still gather in paused meeting areas for some reason.

I will try to remove the zone with no specific deity for a bit and see if it helps when I play later.

It sounds like you didn't improve the temple enough to even have a priest yet, Have to get the value of the temple up over 2000 of an official religion to recognize a priest.

You don't even have the button to recongnize priesthood (and then to appoint a priest) if the temple is not of high enough value and of a religion with at least 10 members in the first place.

That fort was retired a few days ago but the temple's value was at nearly 5000.
I like to make the altar and at least one statue (often 2) of the god with a valuable material.
More often than not I would use gold, platinium or aluminium, meaning that the value of the room goes up very easily.

Sadly statues and engraving based on groups (religions or guilds) can end up showing empty instead ("statue of a " without the name of the group, same for the description).
Not sure why, some groups work fine, some don't.
