Linux when?
Annoyed at Rimworld because you cant go back to abandoned colonies. Came back to this game to see if Linux is available yet.

Click the beta tab, it's there. Also Rimworld is garbage.
This game also runs pretty much perfectly on Proton, if you prefer it.

I don't mind waiting for the bugs to get worked out, but the beta branch Linux version won't even start on my PC and Googling the problem is basically impossible because of all of the DF-related stuff online. Proton works but is extremely unstable in a lot of games, including Dwarf Fortress, because I have a pretty old PC.

Just figured I'd check if anyone else has the same problem.

This has happened to me once when I first installed the Linux beta, not sure why but it wouldn't launch til I just reinstalled Proton version then reinstalled Linux. Nothing else. Made it work again for me, it's a beta though.
People who like Rimworld are betas too.

Proton was giving me trouble, crashing every 10-30 minutes. Meanwhile the native Linux version is faster and much more stable.

No audio, though, has anyone else experienced that?

In terms of features, the Linux build of DFHack is identical to the Windows build of DFHack. DFHack has supported Linux since 2010; there wasn't very much work needed to get it working with Linux DF again.

The new Linux DF port still has some things to work out, though, which is why it's in beta for now.

I have seen this, and for me it has been dependent on the Linux distro that I was testing DF on. I have no doubt that the real underlying cause for this is most likely dependency packages not being installed automatically through that distro's software manager though.

If you're running older hardware, try installing Lubuntu. I've probably gotten about ~15 hours in the beta with the native Linux build, and I've not had a single crash. It feels just as fast on my little 12 year old Lenovo laptop, as one of my high-end gaming rigs. It's a smaller screen for sure, but I can't play the gaming rigs in the bed! Haha

Oh, and make sure that you don't have the Proton compatibility layer enabled, and that you are in the correct beta branch. The game will say "Linux" in the bottom left corner on the title screen, if you've launched it correctly.

I've not had any audio issues with Linux in DF. This is the first I've heard of this issue.

I too was having some serious issues with crashing when using Proton on Linux though. Once I got several years into a fortress, I would start having the random crashes. I have not seen this on the native branch.

I have my doubts it works 100% otherwise they would have released it for Linux already.
