I like to wall off most of the cavern, then leave a hallway/passageway still connected to the edge of the cavern and let my patrols battle the occasional spawned units. Only way to keep them in game but also manageable.
If there is a fix, please let us know as I’d much rather fight the ant men below and the gobbos above, a war on two fronts! What more coulda dorf ask for?!
I did exactly this, I also turned their invasions off in the custom difficulty. I used DF Hack to wall in their spawns and that seemed to do the trick.
I read on the Bay12 fourms someone recommended connecting the caverns so the Forgotten Beasts can all cull the wildlife and invasions. Maybe this and a lowering of their invasions in custom difficulty can at least make the game playable. Because as stated above their spawns are currently bugged.
I'd like to thank everyone for the help, this help saved a 15 year fort and my sanity.
