What's your oldest world?
Was curious to see what some of the communities oldest worlds are. Not just the fortress but the land itself.

I was thinking of seeing how long I can keep one world going how it'll change with each new mega fort I construct in it.

Edit: I am referring to the longest you played in one world, not the world generation itself.

I generated a 10,000 year world. Never built any forts in it though.

How long did that take? What was the size of the world?

Playable? 1200 years worldgen, ongoing (12 years in, should probably pick it up again, heh). 7 z-levels deep magma-filled moat, top surface was obsidian-cast in its entirety (used bridges on map edges to make "walls" to hold the magma) to prevent !FUN!clouds from pouring into the fortress. Half of the 4x4 embark is also an elevated cistern (had to douse the magma with something XD).

There's a lovely tavern for visitors above it, with a fresh-air scenic view (and occasional !FUN!clouds) for my doctors to malpractice on help the victims from.

Unplayable? 50000 years, took about three hours to gen. Sadly, can't save in fortress mode, takes long enough for Winblows to think the process crashed and do crash it. Tried upping the tolerance, still didn't work - I guess there's a lot of compression happening pre-saving.

Yeah I was referring to playable worlds, like what's the longest you played in and developed one world?

Ever since I started playing DF I got about 20+ years in one setting.

Back in lighter and more ignorant years of my life (around early 0.40-0.42.x or thereabout, been too long to remember exact), I got a fortress lasting long enough for some generational turnover. As in most initial dorfs all died of old age and the kids took over.

Was working on a megaproject thingy, never did finish that. One of the version updates finally nuked the save :(

Nowadays I mostly go for some quick self-made objective, or get to a stable fortress of ~100 and decide to try something different in terms of embark details.

Ive gotten two forts deep in one world a bit over 100 years total between them. Became the capital of one civ whos old fortress let a hamster fiend come over and he decided to bring friends and occupy the fort. The goal was to retake our homland. First fort tho i ended up not liking the way the defenses worked and didnt want to rework them so i retired it and embarked closer to my target. That one was destroyed by a unsealed staircase and a webbing forgotten beast. Rip

Do you mean the most years actively played? The museum III game [www.bay12forums.com] over at the bay12 forums has 315 years of active play and around 70 player fortresses and sites. It's adventure mode based so in the old DF version, but there is no reason you could not do it in steam DF once adventure mode is there.
