Dwarf Fortress

Question about Loading Old Saves
I want to keep things brief so I wont dive deep into this but I want to load an old save temporarily. I don't want to make any changes or anything just find some info I can't find in my current save. Can I simply reload the old save when I open my fort? I need to make sure that wont delete or overwrite my current more recent save. Otherwise do I need to duplicate the world/save? And if so how do I safely do that?

If people are curious I can explain why I need to do this but it isn't anything that special. Just dwarf stuff you know. It would take a bit to type out to explain though.

It should be safe to just load it up, find whatever you need, and choose "Quit without saving" when you're done. Even if you save by accident, the game keeps all manual saves and your last 3 auto-saves, so it shouldn't really be an issue.

To be entirely safe, though, you could make a backup copy of Dwarf Fortress/save. That's where everything is kept, iirc.
Ok thanks. I looked in the folder but wasn't sure what was important or what each region corresponded too, backing up the entire folder is a good idea I will do that also.
