Dwarves won't smooth stone

Hello there!

So I finally got around to trying out the steam version of DF. It's been a few years since I played the old version and I can't for the life of me figure out how to make my dwarves smooth the stone in the fortress.
I set up an extra "stone working" job description, with all of the stone working things enabled, lots of dwarves have some proficiency in there and I put them all on that, some forced only to do stone working and yet... nothing. They do the regular stone working stuff just fine, simply no smoothing. Is this not stone working? How can I make my dwarves' rooms pretty?

It should be the "stone cutting" labour, one of the default ones.

Default is that everyone smooths stone. Did you accidentally turn it off somehow?

Somehow it works now... I changed absolutely nothing. My best guess is that I had too many different tasks going on and nobody came around to doing it.

Priority. Ok.. there is a yellow arrow on the right side. when you click on that you get a set of numbers 1 through 5. That number applies to all your bottom of screen tasks, mining, tree cutting, smoothing. when you load a save or start a game it defaults to 4 priority which is low. just get into the habit of clicking the arrow and setting it to 1. That will have your mining/smoothing/woodcutting etc on the highest priority.
