Just do a few Make Scrolls 1/1 and they will start popping them out.
Don't make quires/codices. Evidently you make a quire with parchment/paper/animal thread. then the quire, which is evidently an unbound book, goes into the library where the scholar writes into it. And then when it's done writing into it, then you make it into a codice by binding it in leather.
And now, the rest of the story. They make the quire, it goes into the library. Since you have no clue when or where it's actually written into and you can't choose which quire to make into a codice, AND you have to set up a task to make a codice, it's not automatically done, you may bind a written quire and you may bind a blank one. And evidently blank ones can no longer be written into? Press X to doubt the wiki.. Even I think that whole process outlined in the wiki is hogwash.
So, to make writing materials just.. once a month do...
Press Plant into Slurry 1/1
Press Slurry into Paper 1/1
Make Rock Scroll Rollers 1/1
Make Scroll 1/1
It's even easier that way than making soap. Thanks for reading.
Paper turns into quire once written and you can turn them into codices.
There is no real point in making a codex except raising its value but it's nice that originals keep their title as codices (sadly copies seem to lose their title on the item that way).

And since I don't understand it, I don't do it. Scrolls are the same thing as far as I am concerned and those I can understand the process. I do the things to make a scroll, it goes into the library, it gets turned into books. There's no skip steps between and I can track incomplete job orders, like, I have too much paper, oh.. need to make scroll rollers. Like that. I have NO clue whatsoever how to track the codex process.
If there is at least one written quire, make a codex and if there are less than 2 book covers, make 2 more (since I have plenty of nickel I am using this for most non-weapon stuff I make).
