Adamantine Hammers and Maces or Not?
As above, I hear weight counts for blunt weapons. Adamantine is lightweight according to the wiki.

Using Adamantium would be a bad idea if you have anything else that's more dense/heavier. Copper is good, IIRC, as well as silver.

I have silver I was wondering if Adamantine would be an upgrade.

AFAIK - No, Adamantine would not be an upgrade.

Adamantine blunt weapons are terrible. It's something you give your Hammerer so he doesn't accidentally kill your misbehaving dwarves.

Use steel for hammers/maces.

I've been using silver under the impression its heavier or more dense. Can't remember which.

Silver is a bit denser, but it will wear out fast if you are hitting iron or steel. Steel doesn't have the wear problem, and the damage difference is quite small.

I you dare to micromanage the weaponsmith moods, let them make platinum maces.
And maces are generally superior to warhammers.

I heard this but I have been setting up a dedicated squad for each weapon. I have a couple of mixed squads as well. Got tired of everyone having axes and I'm aiming for 10 full squads. I want to conquer.

The practical impact of that is nearly zero, while silver is an inferior metal to steel, which may have a more significant role under certain circumstances.

Steel is the best metal, except for adamantine for edged weapons.

The density of adamantine is very low, comparable to cork. An adamantine mace is about as effective as hitting someone with a polystyrene club, or a pool noodle.

Definetly cool for roleplay, go for it! The wiki has some useful !science! on the "what is the best weapon topic". After all, this topic has been discussed for _years_ now. And the answers have changed with some large patches over time.

If you have steel, use it for everything. It can easily be molten and recycled. And as masterpiece weapons and shields should be your goal, you will melt a lot of items in your forges.

Platinum maces (or war hammer) are just a cool weapon for your milita commander or captain.
