Gold Mechanisms?
For the life of me, I can't seem to find a way to make them. The only option I get (that I can tell) is for "native gold", which the only thing with that name is unmined gold--as soon as it's mined, it's a gold nugget, and that doesn't seem to count. And I can't seem to find mechanisms under the forge either. Is it even possible to make this?

You make them by creating a work order for gold mechanisms.

Otherwise, only weapon-grade metal can be used.

I'll be damned. I poured over every damn list I could find through the individual shops and couldn't find it--never even thought to use a work order to do it (I only needed 2). Thanks!

"native gold" and "gold nugget" are different names for the same thing, which is the stone that acts as an "ore" for gold. There is not much to do besides melting it and shaping into bars, unlike most metals, but DF distinguishes stone vs metal at a very low level. Similarly the shape "boulder" is different from the shape "bar", so gold has to go through the same mechanics as any other metal.

The ores "native platinum", "native copper" and "native silver" are similar, where the resulting boulder is called a nugget.

The works orders for metal mechanisms exist in the mechanic workshop. But, if you try to do it manually it's in the metalsmith's. It's very confusing.

I noticed that as well. And I wonder if it's actually intended.
Usually metal mechanisms are made at the forge.
But when you open the mechanics workshop and go to the tab "work orders" there you get options for mechanisms of all metals.
They will be made at the mechanic's workshop, and they will use fuel as if it was at the forge.

So I think it might be a bug.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it was possible before Steam.
