Trading individual items within containers
Prior to the steam version, I remember being able to haul filled bins/barrels/pots to the trade depot, and then being able to individually select items to trade during the actual trading.

I can't figure out how to do this in the Steam UI version. Am I missing something or is this genuinely not possible within this version?

This is problematic because I need to individually trade elf-friendly goods to elves, which may have been mixed in with non elf-friendly goods in the same container.

You can still haul full bins to the trade depot and then individually select items within once you do the actual trade, this hasn't changed.

Once you are in the trading interface, it should list the contents of any bin that was carried to the trading post. You can then select individual items you want to sell from within each bin, or select the entire bin to sell it and all its contents.

Is there any way to do that the original poster asked for? If I haul the entire bin to the trade depot, those greedy traders always make a counter offer to include the entire bin.

wdym?
you can select the bin, and that selects it + everything inside OR you can select individual items inside the bin.

My dwarfs stuffed their smallish Artefacts into a finished goods bin. If I haul the entire bin to the trade depot and offer a single Ring to the traders, unless they make a massive profit, they always make a counter offer including the most valuable item I've in the trade depot, so usually I try to curb their greed by not hauling more than what I want to trade away to the trade depot. If I need more, i want to trade random crafts first, not artefacts.

That is strange...I didn't even know they could counter offer, they've never done that to me.

Then you probably just let them off with a massive profit or were already trading everything you had in the depot.

Even If I let them off with a small profit where it is orange they haven't done it to me, and I rarely ever sell a full bin to them / everything in the depot. Often I have to haul multiple bins up to sell off cavern dweller junk and it is mixed in with my good stuff, so I sell multiple partial bins and keep the rest.

I've had them refuse me before, yes, but never counter-offer, assuming you mean they actually propose a deal to you afterwards.

This is caused when your initial offer is too low; how low they are willing to go depends in part on how skilled your broker is (and also how much they like you based on previous trades). So make sure to use a skilled broker, and/or offer them enough on your first offer that they are making a modest profit. Don't try to make them accept a loss or a break-even deal; you want them to have a favorable opinion of the trade, so that they bring you more and better stuff next time.

1000 profit in the green. Still asking for more. Removed the artefacts from the depot. "All clear, Thank you for business."
I had this a lot.

Merchants are greedy when they spot an artifact. Do not haul them to the trade depot, put them all in a separate stockpile if you cannot place or equip them, in order to lock them away safely.

And merchants will need a 100 % profit in the early years until your trader has a higher skill.

And regarding the trading of e.g. barrel content: not possible. You will have to sell the wholen prepared food barreld, including the masterwork roast.

My dumb Dwarf Trick for trading with elves is to dump all the prepared meals that I want to trade into a stockpile (Usually next to the trade depot), unforbid them, and while still paused, go to the trade depot "Move goods to Depot" and it will be under Prepared Meals. Select them to be moved to depot.

That could work for my artefacts. Thanks for the tip.
