There's approximately 15 billion colony management sims, it's a pretty common genre. If you can give some examples of what kind of art style you like, we might be able to mention some games that suit you better.

This is what brought me to DF, right here. It's great and annoying in it's own right--and a whole lot less mining. The downside is the DLCs, while great and completely change how you play, they just aren't worth the price tag. The game very rarely goes on sale, either, so there's that. But the base game is damn good, and I highly recommend it.
You, my friend, need to read the above post of mine (and the one above that).
It would help if you could describe what you're looking for. All I know is you want an engine and graphics, and a bugatti has at least one of those
Which is not surprising, because it's DF.
If you want more grand-scale, there's Songs of Syx. If you want "Adventure Mode" - there's a whole slew of roguelikes.
But if you want a detailed "colony" simulation with some degree of psycho- and sociology involved... not even the original Tropico can match that.
It's just a game in its own league, and little wonder, considering it spawned an entire genre that is hardly going to catch up to the years of development already present.
There's a reason you'll rarely hear about things like Gnomoria, but DF is still going strong.
