Making gem crafts?

I set my dwarf to cut gems and he started making gem bracelets. Ive never seen this before... is it normal?

Yeah you sometimes get bonus crafts out of the "cut gems" labor

It happens about 5% of the time, instead of producing a cut gem the cutter will produce either a large gem (the finished good, not the cut gem) or a craft. You'll usually get 11 crafts for every 16 gems. They are desirable to have, especially the gems. A strange mood can craft a large gem into a perfect gem, worth much.

Weird... I've been cutting gems for weeks and haven't seen a single craft.

I only realised this could happen because i was training my gemcutters with green glass.
